Ten killed and about 120 injured when Pintsch gas lighting exploded at New York Central power station on Lexington Avenue and Fifty Street. A trolley car was hurled from tracks and surrounding windows shattered. cause under investigation as gas from steel tanks leaked after a crash.
A gas explosion near a broken pipe on Lexington Avenue caused a powerful blast. The blast toppled a northbound trolley, injured police officer Francis Kelley and many pedestrians, and buried a beam across the street.
