In Elkhart the January 24 jury date was postponed due to attorneys not ready for trial. Judge Dodge enforces rules. probate court reports many estate actions, sales, and appraisements. Notable items include real estate transfers, executors named, and several divorce cases and civil suits filed.
The common council met for a brief session led by Mayor Lowry. City Attorney Troyer said pavement and sewerage delinquents are paying, the race to Lincoln river bridge sidewalk will winter well, and the fire department received a vote of thanks for last week's Hawks fire.
Mrs. Irvin Smith, about 20, of Mishawaka attempted death by ingesting carbolic acid following domestic troubles. She first denied taking anything when a doctor arrived, then swallowed the drug after the physician left.

The redemption period expired at midnight for the Monolith Port Land Cement Co. property in Bristol. Deputy Sheriff Chatten issued a deed to Bristol Power Co. for the parcel bought at sheriff sale on December 19 1963. The judgment stood at 244 929 dollars. Bristol Power bid 11 000 dollars. The property will support large power project plans in Bristol.
Fred Burgess a young South Bend prize fighter in drink fueled trouble is accused of choking and abusing his mother prompting her to flee to her daughter's home. He allegedly sent his sister for a revolver and had been fighting with a companion in a drunken spree across northern Indiana cities.
Hon. Aaron S. Zonk presented a picture of Elkhart county's first court house to the Elkhart County Historical Society. The relic is in fairly good condition and will be hung in the society room after court house renovations.
The Kugler and Griffin livery stable in Niles burned down with twelve horses killed. One horse reportedly escaped the flames and fled down the street with its head half burned.

A Baltimore and Ohio fireman was killed Saturday afternoon near Union Mills in LaPorte County when his skull was crushed after coming into contact with a mitik depot.

George Meredith, 56, employed by the railroad, was killed west of Pierceton while gathering tools along the track when struck by a fast freight train. He had resigned as Pierceton marshal over a 75 cent weekly salary and leaves a wife and two children.
