Elkhart County seeks immediate expansion after a January commissioners session petition to enlarge the infirmary. Supt Warden reports 64 to 73 inmates on average with 28 women and 45 men, only 18 rooms for males, and two thirds of male inmates sick. Trustees urged to halt admissions until buildings enlarge.
Mrs J Vainesdale of Millersburg slipped on a sidewalk while walking home from church with neighbors. She sustained severe injuries including a bruised hip and internal injuries, leaving her helpless for a time.
A new manufacturing concern forms in Nappanee within a week by mutual agreement between J. W. Brown and J. W. Rosbrugh of Brown Bros. Mfg Co. Rosbrugh takes over the machine shop and part of the real estate to run the business as Nappanee Iron Works.
George Carl of Nappanee was badly hurt when a wooden awning in front of the annex at the Nappanee House collapsed under snow. He was struck on the head by a girder and suffered a deep scalp wound, with heavy bleeding.
Miss Anna Hueblin, a domestic for Mr and Mrs T H Bulla of South Bend, was assaulted by an unknown man who fled after being frightened by her cries. The attempted robbery motive was abandoned as the assailant ran down an alley.
Rev H L Marvin Episcopal rector will launch a semi weekly newspaper at Garrett. The paper will be strictly republican in national state and county politics but independent on local affairs.
Frank A. Gust 55 a Burdick postmaster with one leg was held up by two men who took $25. Gust’s loud cry frightened the robbers into fleeing the store without further search.
Friends and neighbors in York township are raising a purse to replace the horse of Azro Cope who lost his horse last week to a broken leg. Over $80 has already been raised.
Gordon N. Murray, editor and publisher of the Nappanee News, will launch a daily edition on January 1, 1908. He notes Nappanee has long needed a live daily newspaper to serve the community.
Timothy DeBrular has been recommended for postmaster at Garrett and will assume duties in January when Mrs. Amanda Talbert retires. A separate note mentions Economy-sale in Goshen offering over 15 styles of vintage design table glassware.
Clarence Weaver formerly worked as a clerk in James A. Riley & Son hardware store in Goshen. He died at his Middlebury home this afternoon at 2 40 from paralysis and complications.
R C Taggart, 59, died after a five day illness at 618 South Fifth Street. He had worked seven years at Arbuckle Ryan machine works and lived in Marshall Michigan before moving here. Survived by wife two sons Monroe Taggart AmarilloTex a daughter Elizabeth Taggart and siblings William Barker May Romaine Addie Kelso D Breckey. Remains to Bowling Green Ohio for interment service tomorrow at 10:30 officiated by Rev E A Vanpuys.

Mr and Mrs William Dickensheets of Warsaw celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary on Monday. Mr Dickensheets is a veteran of the Civil War.
E. Ball, an employee at the Boyer factory, suffered a painful accident when operating a rip saw. His left hand, including the thumb and two fingers, was badly lacerated yesterday afternoon.
James Long of First street found a carrier pigeon in his yard this morning that had been shot. The bird wore a small neck ribbon bearing the number 36 and the killer is unknown.

One year since the Jefferson theatre block was completely destroyed by a blaze that began around eight in the evening. The anniversary marks the loss of the structure and its impact on the community.

At about 10 o clock last night the hardware store of George W Gilbert in Millersburg was wrecked by an explosion. The frame building about 15 by 30 feet contained stock worth roughly 1200 dollars and was completely destroyed though Gilbert had left by 9. No one can account for the blast as only a small amount of powder and some gasoline were in the shop.
E Wray ONeal of Chicago presented Seers of Visions to a large Jefferson audience at the Citizens Lecture Course last night. Introduced by Dr D L Miller, he spoke about an hour and three quarters to an attentive crowd. Dr and Mrs W O Vallette hosted the speaker at dinner afterwards.
Clyde J Castetter presents a display of fine water colors described as the most beautiful line in the city. The exhibit includes works by Montrose Lind son Rosenberg Mitchell Valet Spencer Smiley Edwards and others drawing art lovers to visit during shopping hours.
Orland L. hrig married Miss Lillian Fletcher last evening at the Evangelical parsonage in New Paris with Rev. Spangler officiating. The groom works for Goshen Motor Works and the bride previously worked at the Home Telephone exchange. They are well known young people.

Mrs Edward Ramsey of Churubusco died in Lutheran hospital Fort Wayne Monday after an operation for abdominal trouble. The notice lists a local business ad line about good candy toys and post cards from Hawks Hardware Co and Clyde.
The Murdock railway seeks to extend into Chicago by a La Porte to Chesterton route, connecting with Michigan Central toward Chicago, after abandoning a west Michigan City survey. Separately, the Chicago Lake Shore and South Bend Railway completes a steel line to Dune Park, crossing the Lake Shore steam road via a massive viaduct and long concrete bridge over a highway.

The Indianapolis News reports three contenders for state Democratic chair: James Kirby Risk of Lafayette, Gilbert H. Hendren of Bloomfield, and Stokes (U. S.) Jackson of Greenfield. They seek to replace William H. O'Brien of Lawrenceburg as party leader.
Ligonier adopts a magnetic fire alarm using a transmitter with 13 ward wheels in the Home telephone office. The operator triggers the bell to convey the fire location in under a minute, reducing six to seven hundred calls per incident and marking a major local improvement.
