Former President William H. Taft travels through on the Northern Central line from Chicago to the east making several addresses. Also noted, a local fruit store advertises tobacco products including candy and cigars.
Francis X Bushman and Beverly Bayne of the Metro film company narrowly escaped death when their carriage tipped onto its side and slid down an embankment in Baltimore. Bayne fainted, her mother Miss Bayne, Polly Pernell, and Helen Dunbar were injured. Bushman carried Bayne to safety and suffered a sprained leg and nosebleed.
Special Secretary Lansing met with President Wilson before cabinet talks. The discussions touched on sending a demand to France to address the removal of subjects from American ships and related issues discussed in Washington.
Ernest W. Ashby, 29, shot and killed his wife after holding their infant, fatally wounded his mother in law Mrs William Tague, then committed suicide. Mrs Ashby had filed for divorce. Ashby alleged the mother in law caused the trouble.

Frank A. Smith 70 longtime Elkhart resident and Lake Shore Railway employee died at General hospital Elkhart from Brights disease. Survived by wife, a daughter and one sister. Vernon Barnes infant daughter died at Wikhart.
Mrs Pauline Bradt of Elkhart 97 baked and helped eat a pie on her 97th birthday. The Review notes she is the oldest resident in the Elkhart vicinity. Another aged Elkhart woman is Mrs Elizabeth Keeler aged 95.
Mary C. Snyder age 55 died in South Bend. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., she moved to South Bend from Bremen 28 years ago. She was married to Louis J. Snyder and survived by his husband, two daughters and a brother Oscar Reed of Nappanee.

Trisworth Souders aged 46 was found dead in his Milburn hotel room in Mishawaka due to heart disease. Survived by two brothers and two sisters including Mrs. Winfield Miser of Columbia City, formerly Goshen. Born in Larwill, Ind he retired to the Milburn hotel and complained of illness to a clerk before dying, with reports of him leaving his room early and expiring soon after while seated.
A seven passenger Studebaker touring car owned by Lon Stephenson of Plymouth was struck by a fast train on the Pennsylvania railroad near the Marshall county infirmary. The car halted on the crossing and no one responded to telephone alerts to flag the train.
