Abram Baker aged nearly 75 was found hanged in his Osceola home early this morning. He had long suffered asthma and had become despondent over personal troubles and years of widowerhood. Surviving children live in Chicago and Elkhart. Funeral arrangements have been completed.
William Spicher and Oscar Christner paid about 40 cents in fines after pleading guilty to hunting with ferrets. Deputies arrested them near Middlebury and City Judge Peters handled the case. Warrants remain for Frank Parish Ewell Messenger and John Schrock.
Indiana Democratic leaders unite to end infighting as W H O'Brien is expected to be re elected state chairman. Marion county policy aligned with statewide aims to rally against Republicans and present strong clean candidates in 1895 era guidance.
A petition for rehearing in the Nadie and Kempner insolvency matter against Goldberg reaches the Supreme Court under care of Jacob Giddbers. Anpert Harlin trustee appeals from the Barn Court with Anderson, Dustage, and Crabill of South Bend acting as attorneys. Goldberg faces liquidation as a result of the dispute, with Albert Harlin serving as trustee for the firm.
A youthful tramp, about 18 or 19, alighted from a southbound freight train and entered the passenger station this morning. He showed frostbite on wrists and face and expressed a wish to reject his Toledo home. He left on freight train No 72 at noon.
About forty young people took part in the event held near the schools building on Middlebury Street. The hill was sprayed with water late last night, creating a frozen surface in excellent condition for the activity.
Jerry Kiase purchased folding chairs and tables from local furniture dealers and will offer them to the public in the future. He can be reached by both phones or by word at either store. The sixth rural route will be established soon.
The Elkhart circuit court will hear next Monday a request by receiver C. H. Bosworth for appointment of a receiver for Consolidated Paper & Bag Company of Elkhart. Walter Brown is general manager. the company owes the defunct Indiana National Bank a large sum. Consolidated was incorporated January 10, 1899 by Oscar E. Randolph, Charles B. Brodrick and Walter Brown.
A new extension of the Indianapolis weather bureau service will deliver daily forecasts to rural telephone subscribers in northern Indiana within ten days. Forecasts will be telegraphed from Indianapolis to Lagrange then Shipshewana and telephoned to Millerburg Middlebury and other rural exchanges. About 950 subscribers, including Butlersville Columbus Greensourg Holland Loogootee Milligan New Augusta Newcastle Owensville Vevay Thorn Town Shelbyville, will receive the 10 am forecast.
Ten Big Four bridge carpenters end a one week strike at Benton Harbor returning to work after a mid point wage settlement. The company conceded part of the demand and the men accepted nine hour days with a small wage increase, citing darkness limiting daily hours and board costs.
Mortuary record notes Daisy Pippenger aged 1 year wife of Adam Pippenger died near ikhart after six weeks illness. Also lists the six year old child of Mr and Mrs Jas Funk of Fish Lake who died Wednesday evening of diphtheria. The funeral took place yesterday.
Announcement of engagement between Me. Orben Aliller of New Pars a student at Indiana School of Telegraphy of Abis ey and Miss Vida Myers Alwinue of New Paris. Marriage planned during the holidays. Also note: inquiry from Charlottetown Prince Edward Island regarding municipal light plants. Goshen noted for its light.
Clyde J. Castetter advertises Allegretti's fine chocolates at 25e per pound for Saturday only. The page also lists medical operation notices for Mrs Peter Stauffer and piano sales from Rocks & Wilson, along with a Red Men meeting postponed for one week and a general sales pitch urging timely orders.
Schuyler Baxter, once a Goshen resident, died in Chicago Wednesday. The remains were interred at Leesburg today. While in Goshen he worked for Hawks Hardware Co and left town about 12 to 15 years ago.
Richard Dugdale formerly of Goshen and late of South Bend has been located in southern Virginia where he recently secured a desirable position. His son remains in Goshen.
Don Serry of Goshen employed as a pressman by Miles Medical Company in Elkhart suffered a serious crush injury when the index finger of his left hand was caught in a press this morning.
David Logan, severely injured when struck by a Big Four train at Main Street crossing December 19, 1901, sues for 10000 dollars. Part of his skull was removed. A parish fair will be held in March to raise funds for the Sister's home roof on South Third Street.
Charles Stoffer a 24 year old South Bend resident was removed to Epworth hospital after a sudden paralysis attack. Doctors deem his prognosis hopeless and note the case is unprecedented in local medicine. Stoffer lived independently since boyhood and has a sister in Pennsylvania while his father may be in York Springs. Attempts to gather funds and locate relatives continue.
The Big Four local freight engine, due in Goshen at 7 oclock Wednesday, traveled between Croshen and Warsaw in 22 minutes covering 4 miles. Frank Kyle and relatives thank neighbors for aid during illness and death of his wife. Justice Whisters Court sees Roxy Little fined ten dollars in costs for provocation. City cautions against throwing ashes in streets with arrest possible after date. Goshen Ind December 11 1903. The Economy reports booming holiday trade nationwide. Charles O Brady mourns death of EA Brady formerly of Warsaw in Gunnison Colorado. Remains to be buried at Bantington with toy prices noted. A special business meeting of Heh church chapel tonight at 7:00.
The 1904 graduating class may be the largest in the school's history with 35 members if no dropouts occur by June. Listed are Fred Nymeyer as president and 34 peers including Edward Kurtz, Dora Blosser, Edith Ramsey, Grace Crowell, Mable McConaughy, and John Kercher. Junior officers are George Shiffer president and Madge Chatten as secretary treasurer, with arrangements to entertain the seniors coming soon.
