Lemuel Houghton 52 an NY C employee and inventor was shot by his son Grant 20 after allegedly attacking the wife and children. Grant, held in Elkhart jail, may be released. the elder Houghton had recent alcohol problems and was negotiating a $50,000 patent sale with Canada. He is survived by his wife and six children.

George Sunderland, a Bremen grocer, learns by mail that his brothers Henry and Nathan Sunderland were killed by bandits at their Cuba fruit plantation. The former Bremen residents were attacked and slain during the incident.
