Two Aged Elkhart Women Die
Two elderly Elkhart women died within days of each other. Mrs. Catherine Schafer aged 85, mother of the murdered Latin school teacher’s grandmother, died at her son John C. Schafer’s home. Funeral services were held and burial followed in South Bend. Mrs. Amanda Crocker Reynolds, 91, mother of Elkhart mayor Charles T. Green, died after injuries from a fall. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Harry Smith a North Side youth was taken back to Fremont County Wyoming today by Sheriff Richard Morse under state requisition papers from Gov. Hanly. He is charged with stealing a horse on October 1 after returning here from Leander. Smith offered no resistance during extradition.

This morning an operation was performed on Mrs. D. P. Deardorff at Becknell hospital where she has stayed for some time. She has heart trouble and was cared for at her mother Mrs. C. R. Watkins home. Mrs. Harry Gore Bishop of Fort Tatten New York and Mrs. Howard Hess and Mrs. Alexander Smulien of Chicago, daughters of Mrs. Deardorff, died here. The patient is in serious condition but rallied well from the operation.

A 51 year old man known as Fatty Smith was killed west of the Lake Shore crossing in Elkhart Saturday night when locomotive No 20 backing down struck him.
