A suit for 1000 dollars was filed by Levi Bowman’s next friend John Reynolds against John Rohrer over a June 17 altercation in New Paris. Bowman incurred medical bills and missed work for several weeks. The case follows probate matters surrounding Lydia Anne Richards will and various local notices.
The Wawasee Protective Association formed at Ina on Saturday with 75 members and expected rapid growth. Officers named are George W. Miles president Anthony Deahl vice president J P Dolan secretary treasurer and directors D Zuck Elliott Durand and C A Ludlow. The group aims to hatch 1 000 000 to 2 000 000 fish annually and protect Lake Wawasee property with Hatchery kettles to be built next spring. State Commissioner Sweeney endorsed the plan and spoke at the meeting.

Reliance led by about a mile. James Whitcomb Riley set to appear on the platform after ten years away from public talks.
George W. Hattle and Mary E. Ellis were quietly married at the bride's Chicago home. The couple, aged 61 and 18, kept the ceremony secret before a Chicago notice appeared. They plan to return to Goshen to take apartments in the Hotel Hattle. Mrs Ellis formerly ran a millinery shop on South Eighth street.
Mrs Rachael Rensberger of five miles southeast of New Paria is critically ill and expected to die soon. About 60 years old, she previously had cancer removed by a local physician but it has reappeared in a more malignant form after about nine months.
Enga announces the engagement of Zelma Bowser to Zenia Ecklebarger. The wedding will be at the Bowser home on September 16. Both couples are well known and popular in the city.
George Ade's first straight comedy The County Chairman opens at the Auditorium in South to a promising reception. Maclyn Arbuckle and Willis Sweatnam star with a strong cast as the chairman and a negro politician. The show moves briskly and naturalness marks Ade's work as it heads to an 11 week Chicago run and plans for a new opera The Sho Gun.
Ruch died in Elkhart Saturday at age 55 from Bright's disease. Born March 9, 1849 in Germany, he is survived by wife Katherine and children Michael, Chris, Catherine Gemberling, all of Elkhart, and Philip of Logansport. Funeral held at Methodist Protestant church at 2:30 p.m. today.

The westbound Lake Shore limited crashed into a switch engine and five box cars near Main Street in Elkhart. Engineer Charles Toullerton of Toledo and fireman Stephen A. Bush of Elkhart jumped to safety. both were badly hurt. No passengers were injured. Five cars were demolished and the pilot destroyed. the train was 61 minutes late into Chicago. Passengers raised a purse of 118 for the injured men.

H J Heinz the Pittsburg pickle millionaire will fund a new entrance at the Winona Assembly grounds with ticket offices for two railroads and passages to electric lines and Pennsylvania station. A $7000 Winona Boys club house will be built. A Big Four station at Warsaw will also be constructed in spring with sheds over tracks and waiting rooms for both lines.
The city will reopen schools on September 7. Primary pupils must be six by April 30 1904 and will not be admitted at the start of the second term. Parents urged to send children first day.
