A guardless night saw burglars attempt Viskniskki & Co. dry goods as Clarence Miller startled intruders after entering to drop off his rain gear. The skylight was pried open and they fled before police arrived. Later, thieves broke into Himebaugh Saloon on East Lincoln, lifting cash, cigars, and liquor after removing a rear door.

Death in barn inactivity mirrors life of Pine Creek resident
Louis Stancliffe was found dead Sunday morning in the barn of his brother in law M J Bender near Pine Creek in Jefferson township. The cause is believed heart disease and he had been weak and unable to work, selling small trinkets to make a living. The funeral is set for Sugar Grove church Tuesday at 2 PM with a 1 PM gathering at the Bender home. Rev DeLong of the United Brethren circuit in Elkhart will conduct. Interment follows at Sugar Grove cemetery.
