Washington Aug. 26 The Senate heard two hours of arguments for and against the soldiers bonus bill but took no action on amendments. Senator McCumber aimed for a vote before adjournment but failed, hoping for action early next week. Smoot offered two tax funded amendments via a manufacturers tax to finance the plan, one at a half percent for three years and a quarter percent thereafter, with exemptions for farm products and small manufacturers. A substitute plan proposing a paid up insurance option financed by a tax was also offered. Opponents New and Myers spoke against. Bursum supported the bonus and a five year payout.

Two Hurt When Auto Hits Wagon Loaded With Posts
