Deputy County Recorder Dwight Yoder will resign in September to attend Northwestern University at Evanston. He led the Goshen High school's 714 class and has studied at Goshen College and Valparaiso University, considering a business course for his next steps.

Roy Buckles son of Ed Buckles of near Wolf Lake died in Arizona at age 24 while undergoing treatment for tuberculosis. His remains will be sent from Arizona to Ligonier for burial.

Mrs. Florence Watson sues the Winona Assembly and Bible Conference in Kosciusko circuit court at Warsaw seeking 10000 in damages and redress. She owns two Winona lots valued for improvements around 15000 and runs the Franconia boarding house. She alleges ticket seizure on July 8 and denial of refund, plus threats to deny exit from town without the ticket and efforts to compel a 5 percent gross receipts license fee. The suit cites limits on her town access, printing refusals, and efforts to deter patrons of Franconia through advertising.

Vera Sauer seven year old daughter of William Sauer of Woodland died in a Chicago hospital after tonsil removal. A Chicago specialist had declined the tonsils as the source of her rheumatic illness and advised surgery. The child seemed to improve after the operation but died during a sinking spell. Remains to be interred at Woodland.
Harry M. Sanders, once of this city and now in South Bend, had offered to fund a graduate from Joyal High School to any university chosen by the student. The arrangement was to be recommended by the superintendent. J. G. Warner of East Goshen, a member of the 15 class, is being sent through Indiana University by Mr. Sanders.
The Brethren church Women’s Siie class hosted a picnic today at Baldwin Lake. A large turnout attended the event with attendees arriving by Northern Indiana Railway lines and by automobile.
Marie Fulbert of Elkhart was found guilty of contributing to delinquency and, by Judge Drake, sentenced to six months in the Indiana Woman's Prison at Indianapolis with a $200 fine.
Nappanee lacks ice due to an unusually hot spell exhausting the supply. To address the emergency, artificial ice is being procured at Bremen to meet local needs.

Funeral services for Mrs Anna Heintgelman Averé were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence 113 North Seventh street with Rev W W Foust of the First Reformed Church officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge.
Frank Parsons of Nappanee serving with the United States Marines writes his mother there from Monte Cristo in San Domingo District Republic under date of Aug. He has been promoted to a sharp shooter.

Miss Helen Berry of this city will not be a member of the Nappanee city school faculty this year. Berry has taught in the schools at that place for several years.
Six weeks after their wedding Miss Golda Smeltzer and Harohki Randolph are in the Superior Court at Elkhart where Mrs Randolph has filed for divorce in a civil action.
Charles R. Blake aged 8 and P. Blough with F. M. Blough, all from this city, will present several implement concerns at the state fair in Indianapolis from September 4 to 9.

Indiana Democratic editors were hosted by Warden F E Fogarty at the state prison for a banquet and vaudeville show by prisoners. Earlier a ride on the Theodore Roosevelt excursion steamer preceded the afternoon ceremony where Miss Esther Ernst was crowned queen of the Indiana centennial celebration drawing about 10,000 spectators in Washington Park.
Special report by Michael Dolan states 49 year old Michael Dolan and Jacob Minner, both of Newcastle, died when the automobile they rode in wrecked after returning from the Connersville fair. Grant Lowe of Newcastle is seriously injured. The car struck a tree south of New Lisbon.
At the regular council meeting on Monday night September 4 a petition will be presented asking for removal of sidewalks to the carbine along the south side of Pike street from Main to Fifth and the west side of Fifth street from Pike to Clinton. All interested property owners except the Church of the Brethren trustees have signed and plan to sign today. Nears Gardner oversees the petition.
Margaret 19 months old, daughter of Charles Hurd of Lawrenceville, drowned in Webster lake near Yellow Banks hotel. She wandered from a cottage where family stayed three weeks, playing in a boat tied to a pier. Found dead an hour later with head buried in mud, water about two feet deep. Attempts to revive with a pulmator failed. Survived by parents and three sisters. Hurd is superintendent for Central Refining Company.
Henderson Wilkinson had his toe mashed at the city water plant and now wears a plaster cast. M A Dunlap of the National Dairy Machine Co. who broke his ankle at work also has a cast on his foot at home on North Main Street. He is not expected to resume work for several weeks.
A four year old mare owned by Ralph Eby four miles south of Elk Hart on Oakland avenue road died from heat after falling in a field as plowing work began. Eby had received a $200 offer for the animal.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bert Berkey were conducted this afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Middlebury Brethren church. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Floovens and family of Goshen. Burial followed at Rock Run cemetery.
The Redpath Bureau of Chicago has contracted with Goshen College to supply the attractions for the regular winter lecture course to be given at the college.
