Hammond reports indicate eleven Indiana state militia companies remain on duty to guard order at the Standard Steel Car plant amid a strike by 2,000 workers. Officials say the homeward march may be delayed as strikers insist on a parade, though no serious outbreaks occurred this morning.
Police units and National Guard troops moved to quell a disorder in Hammond after a mob confronted a parade. Reports say four shots were fired during the confrontation as officers ordered the crowd to disperse, ending the first major disturbance since authorities arrived.
Postmaster Robert E. Springsteen announced that three Indianapolis grocers are under scrutiny for allegedly ordering army surplus foods for resale. Several orders involve individuals linked to grocery stores and are being examined.
Frank Rothe and Walter Newport of Marion and Charles Holmes of Gas City, self confessed auto thieves, were released on bond at Wabash. They admitted stealing a machine owned by Arthur Ruhl of Wabash.
E. W. Thomas, a Richmond area farmer, celebrates his mule aged 42, said to be the oldest in Indiana. The veteran animal is kept on the Thomas farm as a curiosity and local landmark.
Several hundred Mormons driven from Colonia Morelos by Villa’s invasion in 1916 are trying to reclaim their homes from Mexican squatters. About ten Mormon families still reside in the colony but cannot occupy their brick houses as Mexican families refuse to quit, claiming Mexico for Mexicans.

The Booth Theatre, worst in NY, faces closure after Actors Equity strike. Coburns starred in Better Ole, with staff failing to report for duty.
Santa Ana California August 23 Nathaniel Rochester of Santa Ana killed in action will be honored as his great grandfather Col Nathaniel Rochester founder of Rochester New York and famed Washington officer in the Revolutionary War was honored in the city he founded.
In Los Angeles today 40 car loads of army supplies bound for troops on the Mexican border were held at local freight yards due to a strike by train men on the Southern Pacific Santa Fe and the Los Angeles and Salt Lake City railroads.
The supreme council of the penes conferencr has not received cir messages indicating the resignation of Archduke Joseph head of the Hungarian government but expect to hear within a few days that he has quit office. Wilbur Topping 25 son of G W Topping of South Bend died Thursday morning in hospital at Council Bluff Town. The deceased was born in Goshen in 188 Last spring he went to Council Bluff Town and was employed up to the time of his death there. Besides the father the survivors are six sisters among them Mrs Chas Morrice of Groshen
Six of the 13 Lagrange school teachers have quit citing unsatisfactory working conditions. Miss Al fie Musser, head of the primary department, was the latest to resign, leaving a scramble to fill vacant posts amid growing staffing trouble.
Isaac Broom from near Bluffton, a U S soldier previously reported killed overseas, arrived home to learn his name had appeared in the casualty list by error and caused concern among family and community members.

Mrs. W. W. Miller of 1412 South Eighth street, wife of the Progressive Mennonite church pastor, is in Goshen hospital with a broken leg and severe facial and lower limb cuts after a collision on the East Lincoln avenue road. Rev Miller and their baby escaped injury as their Ford sedan was struck by a touring car driven by an Elkhart man and wrecked. The miller car, bought shortly before, is valued at about 350 dollars. An Elkhart autoist drove the family to the hospital and N C Cripe of the Kelly Garage managed the wrecked car.
William J. Bryan, three time Democratic presidential nominee, presided over the Bible conference at Winona Lake. He preached on Come Unto Me All Ye That Labor and are Heavy Laden and said the republic can solve vexing questions without revolution. He spoke on national issues, then left by automobile for Fort Wayne to Manchester, New Hampshire.
Paris Aug 23 Herbert Hoover said he is sure Hungarians will bid the Hapsburgs goodbye after the supreme council demanded Archduke Joseph resignation from Budapest.
Indianapolis Aus 20 Special The state highway commission released estimates for new highway sections including a 289 mile line from Shelburn to Porter Line in Big Rivers Take County. Concrete cost per mile listed as 57. The line also mentions bituminous concrete at 445 per mile and other figures.

The Rev FE A Vannuys finalizes his tenure at First Presbyterian Church, preaching tomorrow and Sunday, August 31. He plans to move his household and effects to Chicago in about two weeks using a motor truck.

Albert Aecke 39 of Mishawaka died at St. Josephs Hospital from blood poisoning following a finger injury sustained a week earlier. Born in Belgium on July 28 1886 he married in 1908 and is survived by his wife two children his parents in Belgium a brother in France and a sister in Mishawaka. He moved to Mishawaka from Belgium eight years ago and worked at Mishawaka Woolen Mfg company.
Mervin Rummel Cheater Unger and Mervin Cregier of Company F arrived from Hammond last evening and will stay until Sunday morning. So far Ham mond has been pleasant but an outbreak is expected Monday morning.

The body of Harry FP Fink of Los Angeles formerly of Goshen arrived in Goshen with James A Arthur of Los Angeles. Services will be at 3 30 p m Monday at 110 North Sixth Street with Rev E A Vannuys of First Presbyterian Church. Burial in Oak Ridge cemetery. Funeral services were held in Breese Brothers chapel Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon with Rev P Lee officiating.

Special Telegrams report that Angolan Mrs. Croxton died after a car collision near Missoula, Montana. Emmett Croxton and son Fred were en route to the scene. Mrs. BE Dunning, Croxton’s cousin, was slightly injured. Mrs. Dunning had invited Mrs. Croxton to travel to Washington state.
The Reparations Committee has drafted a note for the Supreme Council to send to Romania warning that reparations under the German Austrian treaty will be cut off if Romania continues requisitions. It states that Romanian requisitions in Hungary will be deducted from Romania’s share of Austria’s indemnity.
South Bend property owner Samuel Robinson sues Minnie Stewart for one month rent of $6.50 for second story quarters. The case is described as the smallest piece of litigation ever started in St. Joseph county and has not improved Robinson's popularity.
