32nd Annual Reunion Of 29th Indiana Regiment In South Bend
The 32nd reunion of the 29th Indiana Volunteer Infantry is set for South Bend on September 18 and 19. Recruited in Goshen, Captain H. G. P. Oblinger led the unit briefly, followed by Henry G. Davis who served about three years and rose to lieutenant colonel of a colored regiment at Chattanooga. Mustered at Laporte August 27, 1861, the 29th Indiana fought in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, including Shiloh, Corinth, Stone River, Liberty Gap, and Chickamauga, and mustered out at Marinette, Georgia, December 2, 1865, after nearly four years.
