In New Jersey on August 22 Reliance won the race with perfect ease. The finish resembled a procession as Shamrock II trailed far behind. The American wake escorted the yachts and excursion boats. Official start times list Shamrock II at 1145:17 and Reliance at 1145:21.
The Syiney bank failure is blamed on an owner seeking wealth, with loans to the National Milling Company now said to total 54 000 instead of 60 000. The bank advanced money without security and could not fully recover due to a 30 000 mortgage held by the Fort Wayne Trust Company.

A barn on the Reuben Trimmer farm eight miles west of town burned last evening around 5 15. The Trimmer family saved two horses and several hogs as grain and farming implements were destroyed. Losses include 1000 on William Trimmer’s grain and 290 insurance for Reuben plus 500 on the barn. Police note two young children and a neighbor’s son may have sparked the blaze with matches.
A meeting of state board of agriculture members was held to finalize plans for the state fair. James E. McDonald of Ligonier, a member of the executive committee, predicted this year’s fair will feature Indiana’s strongest horse exhibition yet. Four Sousa concerts are scheduled during the week with performances Wednesday and Thursday at Tonalinson hall.
George Ives twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs Hiram Ives of Oak Ridge avenue was severely bitten yesterday afternoon by a dog owned by James MacCreary. The animal is not cross and was never known to show viciousness. The lad is recovering and no serious results are anticipated.
Lewis Snyder aged S visiting Grand Rapids relatives fell from a swing and fractured the middle third of the right radius. Dr. Anna G. Kauffman treated the fracture. In a separate inquest the St. Joseph county coroner ruled John Banstin death by own action in a South Bend clay hole case with signs of potential foul play.

George Hooks and John Clark were struck dead by lightning near Valparaiso while taking shelter in a lime kiln. Hooks, about 25, and Clark, about 13, were among several others present. Constantineve Miles Medics defeated Elkhart 17 to 11 for $10, umpired by Ed Bickel. The Union Cornet Band provided music and a concert in the evening.
Miss Carline Rohr, celebrated for the title role in Tess of the D Urbervilles, appears at the Irwin on Wednesday evening. A Baltimore native of Jewish extraction with strong family standing, Rohr studied at St Marys Convent and Vassar, then built a noted stage career with Frohman Lyceum and Empire Theatre Company, earning wide praise.
