Clarence Brown Dies After Coney Island Drowning
Clarence E. Brown, 24, head bookkeeper at Hawks Furniture Co., of Goshen, Indiana, died at Coney Island Hospital after a Saturday swim. He fought the tide with life guard Captain Riley and was brought ashore unconscious. He left Goshen Tuesday on a Niagara excursion, planned two weeks east, and was engaged to Miss Mamie Holt. He carried a $1,000 life policy and was the one hundredth drowning rescues by Riley. Burial at Oak Ridge cemetery with funeral set for Wednesday.

Fire alarm at Main and Lincoln no cause found
At about 9 o'clock Saturday night residents reported a fire alarm from 22 Main Street corner Lincoln Avenue. Dr. M. Curtis had burned waste in his basement furnace to destroy it. a passerby saw the blaze and raised the alarm, drawing the fire department.

Elkhart city court found Grouchy Compton guilty of giving beer to the six year old son of Benj Wolfing er. John C. Knoblock a leading South Bend businessman died Saturday at 75 from Brights disease after weeks of heat exhaustion. Born in Canton Ohio he moved to Indiana in 1843 and worked in groceries before joining several manufacturing ventures. He served four years as county commissioner and was treasurer of St Joseph County Savings Bank.
