Mrs Susan A Dull files another circuit court suit against husband James F Dull seeking decree and child custody amid a complex history. She previously withdrew a suit. Blain death and shared life with Mrs Dull surface as wills and property notes.
Mrs. Jacob Baker, 38, of four miles southwest of New Paris, died at Becknell hospital at noon after an operation yesterday for malignant uterine disease. Though she rallied briefly, a sudden decline led to dissolution. Survived by husband, two sons, two daughters. remains moved to Silver morgue and to be shipped to Secor Illinois. The family had resided on the Rohrer farm for about a year, having moved from Illinois.
The White Restaurant opened in the Cunningham room with Imperial orchestra performing a select musical program. Many guests visited the new establishment and expressed strong approval. J. H. White & Son, formerly of Decatur and Warsaw, are the proprietors.
Mrs. W. H. Kauffman of Lagrange lost her diamond during the Hoosier carnival grounds train robbery. Arthur Smith, a carnival youth, recovered the gem from sawdust and took it to a jeweler who confirmed it belonged to Mrs. Kauffman.
The Rt. Rev. Herman J. Alerding bishop of the Catholic diocese of Fort Wayne along with other bishops will likely sail for Rome on September 7 to visit the pope.
Justice Kitson heard Vern Benner's case with attorney J. M. Treesh requesting a change of venue. The proceeding moves to Justice Groves' Milford court next Tuesday forenoon.
Mrs. John Rigner and Gladys Hayward of Detroit spent yesterday with Mr. and Mrs. James Leavey of Elkhart, recording a social visit between families.
Judge Plummer refused to issue a marriage license to Tish Higgins and John Griffey after a hearing. Griffey testified he is 68, receives a $40 monthly pension, works digging taters and cutting wood, and has been a steady drinker for 20 years. The judge called him a drunken imbecile and blocked the marriage, deeming Higgins a common prostitute.
Elkhart County Historical Society alters the meeting from Thursday to Wednesday afternoon August 23. The circuit court room will host readings on local history with talks by local pioneers who are expected to attend.
Two men entered A. G. Helwig’s Kendallville home while the family was away and stole about 200 dollars in valuables. Less than three hours later they were captured in Sturgis, Michigan. One thief, with red hair, spoke fluently and claimed to be a casket trimmer who helped trim President Helinley’s casket. They refused to give their names.
A dispatch reports the first spike of the Toledo and Chicago electric road driven one mile east of Auburn. Officials from Garrett and Auburn participated in the ceremony as plans suggest the line will reach from Toledo to Chicago in 1906, linking Toledo Fort Wayne and Chicago via Butler Waterloo Auburn Garrett Kendallville Ligonier Goshen Elkhart South Bend and LaPorte.

Four Goshen women from the Newell cottage at Lake Wawasee were thrown from a carriage when the Newell horse reared at an oncoming auto near Jones' hotel. Though the buggy was badly damaged, all occupants escaped serious injury and continued their trip after seeking a farm house.
MORTUARY RECORD. MRS. MARY A WARNER, 8, died at home three miles west of Elkhart after paralysis. Husband J Warner, two sons, two daughters and one sister survive. CRIST HEIBER of Milford, 73, died of old age at home after immigrating from Germany 23 years ago. Surviving: three sons, wife and one daughter. Pansy Maker, daughter of George Yonker, 18, died at Ligoniers after several days illness.
Mrs. Christian Helfrick of Larwill died in Kokomo after two months of treatment for dropsy and heart disease. The Pierceton Record reports the death of George W. Makemson, born August 25, 1862, in Kosciusko county, who endured weeks of suffering with quiet fortitude.
Harris F. Holland of the Holland Palace Car Co Indianapolis and Columbia Gransmy & Richmond Traction Co launches a movement to build an inter urban electric line from Niles to Diamond Lake and thence to Kalamazoo Michigan via Cassopolis.

Elkhart Indiana plans a banquet for William Jennings Bryan the night of August 28 at the Century club after his lecture on The Value of an Ideal at the St Joseph Valley Chautauqua. Hon J B Stoll will introduce him. organizers say the event is a tribute rather than political. Preparations for the Chautauqua are nearing completion with growing ticket inquiries.
A well dressed stranger visited Frank Mayr Son in South Bend and swapped a small diamond for a 3.5 caret stone valued at 700 dollars while a clerk briefly left the tray. The man then bought a plain band ring for ten dollars and departed. the big diamond was not found until the next day. A description was provided but no leads exist.
Editor E A K Hackett of the Fort Wayne Sentinel and a Winona director says attendance this year will surpass prior years with a 20 percent rise in gate receipts. He notes Winona’s grounds rival distant sites and predicts President Roosevelt may visit next season. The assembly ends Sunday with paid admission stopping, followed by a Bible study conference featuring renowned minds.
Judge Francis E. Baker ruled that Consumers' Gas Trust Co designed an option giving Indianapolis a right to acquire the gas plant at appraised value, beyond corporate power. The city will not appeal and sale of the property is scheduled for Sept. 11 under federal court order with bids due.
B G Whitehead resigns after a year with the News Times. He will take effect September 1 and remain in Goshen as representative in northern Indiana for several metropolitan newspapers. Duties require only occasional day trips from the city.

Miss Iva Williams daughter of J J Williams of Mishawaka secretly married Fred Warren manager of the Isle of Spice company in Grand Rapids Michigan. The couple plans an eastern tour then will move to Boston to reside permanently. News reached Miss Williams' parents in Mishawaka.
George Shetterly a wealthy Berrien County Michigan farmer disappeared after leaving home with 200 dollars in gold to visit a nearby farm. Authorities have clues suggesting murder by robbers.
Ida Scheffer of South Bend filed for divorce from Jacob Scheffer alleging abandonment. She states they lived together and married on Christmas Day 1900, but he left for parts unknown.

Sycamore Hall in Topeka Indiana is nearly finished as a Carnegie gift from New York and Isaac Straus of Ligonier funds the project. The $8000 theatre will serve the 500 residents with both donors contributing about $4000 each. The hall is set for dedication this fall with a Sycamore Society entertainment likely.
The largest Michigan peach crop movement begins with a shipment of 60,000 packages from Benton Harbor. Over the next three weeks there will be a daily increase in shipments as the harvest reaches markets.

In excavating for the MRE church at Wakarusa workmen struck quicksand. The architect ruled brick construction impossible on the foundation and a frame church will be built. Savings from not using brick and stone will fund interior beautification.
Workmen continue cutting stone for the rebuilt courthouse. The current stone matches the old with improved appearance after earlier shortfalls.
The 9:14 southbound Big Four train runs late due to heavy peach and celery shipments. Delays are common only during the peach and celery seasons and are otherwise exceptional.
