In Londonderry and surrounding areas rioting and clashes between Nationalists and Orangemen left several policemen and soldiers severely injured. Troops faced stone volleys while dispersing crowds at celebrations. property damage runs to thousands of pounds.
Lewis D Cost, confined at a state penitentiary in Watnen for the murder of his wife Tessie, paid a coal bill for fuel used prior to the crime. The settlement arose after a quarrel at their Detroit apartment and involved a transfer of funds from the prison. Relatives view the voluntary payment as a sign of responsibility amid legal proceedings.
Lagrange county commissioners after a long session chose the Seminary highway for gravel improvement. Two routes were under consideration. the Seminary road runs six miles west of Lagrange, then south two miles and west six miles.
It was learned today that 500 insurance was held at the George P Rowsell agency on the plant of the Goshen Concrete Silo Co which burned Wednesday night. The policy was handled by Mr. Rimpler and forgotten by Mr. Miller.
A meeting was held last night in Stornex to discuss raising funds to continue the services of County Agricultural Agent Metzger. The group did not reach a conclusion on the matter.
Listen Wymond 51 of Warsaw formerly Evansville died in Harper Hospital Detroit Michigan after an illness. He was a prominent Episcopalian.

Arthur M. Hively of Churubusco age 21 wed Okla Hire of Albion age 25 in a local ceremony confirming a formal marriage union.
Fieldman Tillman of the state tax board instructed Elk Hart and Goshen county assessors to enter changes in valuations into the books. The County Board of Review had withheld changes due to taxpayer complaints. Assessor Houd says the changes will not alter the overall grand total tax assessments as decreases offset increases.
The Meimanonite Brethren in Christ camp meeting at Fetters Grove five miles west of Goshen began Thursday August 7 and ends tomorrow with a large turnout and many tents. Milford evangelist Jacob Hygema has been the main speaker.

A cheese nearly as tall as a person and 10 percent feet in diameter, weighing 31 964 pounds, was completed for ormour Company of Chicago for display at the National Dairy Show in Chicago October 6 to 12. It used 357 500 pounds of milk from 12 000 cows on 1800 farms and employed 13 cheese makers. The project includes three bandage cloths, film records, and world-spanning publicity planned for the exhibit.
Thad M. Talcott Jr, a South Bend lawyer, will be one of the big gun speakers at the League of America convention in Cincinnati starting next Monday for a four day session.
A. J. Buttallo of Battle Creek Michigan a Grand Trunk railroad brakeman lost his right arm and was injured when struck by a switch engine in the South Bend yards on his first trip Friday.

Dr R E Pattison Kline spoke on The League of Nations at the Redpath chautauqua tent Chandler school lot as Goshen’s eighth annual chautauqua enters its second day. The afternoon program featured One Thirvesters company and Florence Bullard on Community Health with strong audience applause.
The Mishawaka Woolen Mfg Company, a $10 million yearly business with about 43 000 retail dealers, was ordered by the Federal Trade Commission to discontinue price control practices. The order bars standard resale price agreements, using dealer information to enforce prices, retaliation against noncomplying dealers, and any other means to enforce resale prices.
INDIANAPOLIS Aug 16 Special Railroad shopmen in this city will resume their jobs Monday morning. Costly Display At Columbia City Goward Ormesby of Fort Watyre crawled from an automobile with five companions and displayed a bottle of whiskey. He was arrested, fined 100 dollars, and jailed. The whiskey was poured into a sewer. A training representative for a soft drink concern at Fort Wayne later stated the whiskey came from his private stock.
Moses B Wyland, 78, prominent Kosciusko county agricultural figure, died suddenly at his Syracuse home at 7 AM from heart neuralgia after a sickness starting about 2 AM. He moved from Milford Junction a year ago and is survived by his wife and three daughters in Syracuse and Goshen. Funeral set for Monday at 2 PM in Syracuse.
City authorities in South Bend prepare prosecutions against landlords who exploited the current situation by raising rents.
Sixteen young women joined the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Mars College near South Pearl. Cecelia Hertel of Goshen becomes Sister M. Ivan and Madelina Ludwig of Itk hart takes the name Sister M. Vincent.
About 150 people from towns within fifty miles of Goshen attended the Stiver family reunion at City Park. Maybelle James presented an extensive family history. Eldest guest was Jacob Pfeiffer of Middlebury, 91, and Mary Louise Scranage was the youngest. Officers elected for the next year include President Mrs E O Stroup, Vice President Simon Guude, Secretary Maybelle James, and Treasurer W F Stiver.
Rev. John McGuire of Goshen, 25 year Burma India missionary and Burma Bible translator, will preach at First Baptist South Bend tomorrow morning. He speaks Burmese fluently and recently helped translate part of the Bible. He is on vacation and will work at Chicago University, staying with Dr. and Mrs. Calvert at 528 E. Monroe Street.
In Elkhart City Court the assault and battery case George Fleming versus C L Monger was continued to Monday. Monger filed a provoke charge against Fleming in retaliation, with notable public interest due to the parties involved.
Friends and relatives of Miss Maud Miller of Netcost hosted a picnic dinner in her honor at the dam yesterday. In the races Inez Hoke placed first and Mrs Job Simimey finished second. A big noon dinner followed with guests enjoying fishing, knitting and sewing.
Neighbors in Ligonier report George Koontz living with his mother on the North Side for years. After her death he inherited the home, kept it intact, and has not been heard from in over a year. He has a minister brother in Minnesota and a half brother and sister. Officials will search to learn his fate.
Washington August 16 General increases of about 80 percent in the cost of living from December 1914 to June 1919 are shown in tables released by the department of labor. The increases are greatest in clothing and house furnishings with food rising less. Figures for December 1917 to June 1919 indicate about a twenty percent general rise.
A Mishawaka woman learning to drive in the city crashed an automobile into a porch at the home of Dan W. Nikart. No injuries reported.

Jennie Ellen Clark died at 6 this morning at the family home near Solomon's Creek after a two year illness. She leaves William Clark her husband two daughters Mary Louise ten days and Bernice three sons Rayburn Glen and John her mother Mrs. Sadie Miller of West Goshen four sisters and three brothers. Funeral arrangements to be announced Monday.
The Gucestructo baseball club from Mishawaka is attracting an unusually large crowd for an excursion to Chicago. Two South Shore Line trains are in service with one departing at 2 PM today and another at 8 AM tomorrow. Round trip fare from Mishawaka is 2.70.
