A. E. Weaver reports to State Superintendent on Elkhart County schools. Read that 9,617 pupils attended 140 schools, 281 teachers earned 155,000 in wages, with total annual expenditure 429,862.10. Tuition and common funds funded the costs. schools are in excellent condition.
The Indiana and Michigan baseball league will soon fold as management ends the season. The final game is set for Sunday in Elkhart between the Berrien Spring team and the Elkhart club. Goshen declined an invitation to join.
Mrs McCaskey will entertain the Ww Co T A Thimble club Wednesday afternoon at her home 71 North Main Street. Fred Kiste and Liliam M Mack were married last night by the Rev Berry at his home.
Pittsburg completes a deal to acquire George Carey star outfielder of South Bend for 1500 dollars. Delivery occurs after the Central League season. Carey is touted as the league’s best outfielder and is batting about .310.
Elkhart man J. Morely a Lake Shore mail porter was slightly injured in Laporte when a sack of mail dragged him into a car. He was between two cars when a collision threw him to the side and he sustained chest injuries.
Burglaries hit the Winona post office twice in one week and detectives in Washington are reviewing the case. Reports say several other sites at Winona Park suffered burglaries or pickpocket activity, described as a widespread harvest.
About 150 Brethren Sunday school members from Big Picnic at Elkhart rode two Northern Indiana traction cars to Island Park for a joint outing with Elkhart Brethren Sunday school. New Paris joined with a large delegation for the event.

Alfred Krueger a South Bend plumber drowned at Eagle Lake north of Elkhart on August 8 was found surfacing at 7 this morning in front of French’s hotel by Harry Finch. His father identified the remains and the body was taken to Edwardsburg for burial and shipment to South Bend tonight. The ten day surface theory is confirmed in this case.
Eminent Indiana doctors and opticians met in Laporte as doctors considered a planned operation to restore sight to the infant Atkins children. The left eye of Effie Atkins seven shows partial opening while the right eye is covered by skin. A second infant has both eyes closed. Doctor MacFatrich called the procedure experimental and the mother abandoned further hope.
Fred Smith, a Goshen ditcher who died from injuries in a cave-in north of Goshen, left an estate worth about 31800. He held nearly 1000 in bank and owned a house and lot near Oak Ridge cemetery. The Elkhart County Trust Co. is named administrator and the estate will be settled in court. It is thought he may have relatives in England.
A fire caused by a short circuit damaged the pest basin at Grand Crossing this morning leaving the Lake Shore line with only one live wire to Goshen. Crews were dispatched to repair the route and telegraph service on the Lake Shore B and O Michigan Central Panhandle and Nickel Plate roads was completely cut off. Weston S. Beck arrives from Chicago to visit relatives for a couple of weeks.
I M Carpenter of Goshen is reported improving after doctors earlier said he was near death from blood poisoning following a leg amputation for gangrene. He shows steady progress and is recovering nicely.
No relatives of William Chadderton have been found and Coroner Stauffer has postponed the inquest until Saturday. It is believed Chadderton died by morphine overdose and a detailed investigation is under way.
Jacob R. Taylor, once of Elk Hart, dies in Dallas from typhoid fever after leaving the county eight years ago. His son Guy died recently in Dallas and Clyde is critically ill with typhoid.

Mrs Elizabeth Parker widow of Marshall Parker and former Elkhart resident died in Mishawaka of paralysis at age 77. The body has been sent to Michart for burial.
Clyde Fisher son of D H Fisher fell from the roof while shingling a barn about two miles north of Elkhart and sustained serious injuries.
