Jesse McLanahan of Elkhart admitted neglecting to deliver a house key to landlord Arthur Dunbar after vacating the property. Justice Brumbaugh assessed a $10.59 fine and McLanahan arranged to pay within three months.
Rev. H. Robert Smith and family return tomorrow from California after several weeks away. Services will be held at First Baptist Church on Sunday morning at 11 o'clock.

Harvey Weaver, 12, son of C W Weaver, living six miles northeast of Nappanee, fell from a wagon road of oats and dislocated his elbow. Medical aid was summoned and the injury was described as painful but not life threatening.

Abraham Geyer aged about 80 and formerly of Milford died at his North Manchester home. He was a cousin of Mrs. Daniel M. Bowser of Goshen. Survived by his wife two sons and one daughter. Funeral services set for Sunday at 10 30 a.m. at his residence.
Bessie Brady of Elkhart declared insane has begun habeas corpus proceedings in the superior court to contest confinement. Hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday to determine her sanity and continued custody.

She seeks $100 alimony, custody of the children, and $35 weekly support. Deahl & Deahl represent her.
Eugene Dwight of Fremont is hospitalized with a broken hip after an auto owned by Henry C. Guthermuth and driven by his son Leland collided with the buggy carrying Dwight, his son Harry Dwight, and Lloyd Williams near the Munger building. The horse valued at 200 dollars was killed. Guthermuth blamed storm blindness and dimmed headlights under city ordinance. Recovery prognosis uncertain.
The Misses Ruth and Florence Hahn of 304 Wilson Avenue hosted a farewell for Miss Helen Swanson who is moving away. She received many gifts and refreshments were served. Mrs Howard Baker of Oklahoma and sister Miss Ruth Horn of near Millersburg host Mrs A S Hollingsworth and son Hale at Wawasee Lake for a few days.

She claims it keeps pace with the world and lets her share the work and pleasures, contrasting Dr Osler’s late era views. She recalls covering distance in twenty minutes, a century-old journey that long required an hour or more of jolting riding.
Fern Koder age 25 previously of Kendallville and now operating a Hudson garage was instantly killed yesterday afternoon when his machine was struck by Wabash passenger train No. 11 on a crossing two miles west of Hudson. Survived by parents and three brothers.

The M E B Sunday schools of Ken dallville and Goshen will hold a contest for new members starting September 1. Classes are evenly matched. Plans were finalized at a joint meeting held last night at the local church. An American flag costing $30 will be awarded to the winning class.
The big Buick owned and driven by Buckner Freeland of Middlebury went into a ditch last night as Freeland attempted to pass another car. Little damage resulted.
The Winona Flyer arrived over an hour late due to a power service outage causing a delay around a noon schedule.

In Hymera Indiana on August 11 a car carrying Lewis Scott age 16 and Bid McAnnary toppled while turning a corner. Scott was instantly killed and McAnnary was knocked unconscious in the crash involving the overturned vehicle.
Brooks Construction Co of Fort Wayne, contracted to pave West Lincoln avenue from the hydraulic to the Elkhart Harrison township line, reports the section from the hydraulic to the Elkhart river finished. Crews will start from the Elkhart Harrison line toward Goshen, with completion hoped by October 15th or November. The Lincoln avenue bridge over the hydraulic has been greatly improved.
Tomatoes that once sold at 50 to 75 cents per bushel now fetch 9 to 12 dollars per bushel. A grocer notes the change to buying by the pound, 20 to 30 pounds at 10 to 12 cents per pound, and selling at 15 to 20 cents per pound. Sixty pounds equal a bushel.
In Michigan campaign F Henry Wurzer, former South Bend lawyer, is among the spellbinders now employed in the national Republican drive. Mr Wurzer resides in Detroit.

Four Lincoln Highway association workers reached Fort Wayne to mark and standardize the route across the region. Beginning in Eastern New Jersey in June, they will paint the red white and blue markers and install turn signs as they move west toward the Pacific coast. Local groups pay a small pro rata share to cover the labor costs.
Due to a large influx of early arrivals at Winona Lake Indiana the Winona Bible Conference organizers plan overflow meetings during the ten day sessions. Inquiries for conference literature and reserved seats exceed previous years and attendance at the chautauqua entertainments has risen since opening day with expectations the conference will be the greatest in the institution’s history.
O. O. Knepper of Mishawaka leaped from a moving car as a Grand Trunk train struck it near Division and Eddy streets. The car was shoved 300 feet along the tracks before the locomotive halted.

Goshen College Summer School Chorus performed The Rose Maiden by Cowen before a fair crowd last night. Soloists were Joy Arnold soprano Elvina Ebersole contralto Harvey Crawford tenor Mark Schrock baritone Amos S Ebersole conductor Sylvia Bontrager accompanist. The work follows Roseblossom from fairy queen to love and loss ending in fleeting happiness. Several soloists are Goshen residents with Crawford from Elkhart.

Cora M. Smith sues Samuel J. Pletcher of Osolo township for 40 dollars. The case moves for the third time, changing from Justice A. B. Kesler to Justice J. M. Brumbaugh at Elkhart. Pletcher contends the money was paid to Smith’s husband, George Smith.
Police fear two vials of poison thrown into the Morris Guenther play yard, home to three year old Ernest Guenther of Fort Wayne, aimed at harming the child. The child fell ill after possibly ingesting the substance.
