In Joliet troops were called as 1,300 trainmen walked out. Chiefs of striking shopmen discuss President Harding’s latest peace proposal and plan to respond early next week. Rail executives convene in New York to discuss the plan.
Washington sources say union chiefs prep for tomorrow's cross union meeting while President Harding ponders final offer. Rail executives may accept, but strike leaders push telegrams urging rejection as armed guard protests flare at Joliet and Chicago yards threaten service.
In recent days several residences report thefts. At 305 South Sixth street Mrs Spillman and Miss Esther Thomas saw a man taking money from a pocketbook, about four to three dollars. entrance via a front door jamb and a con federate outside suspected. Other entries include Charles W. Foulks on South Eighth street with minor losses. No arrests yet as police lack definite clues.
An ice cream social and supper will be held on Main street in Foraker tomorrow evening to benefit the newly organized city band. Tea cream, cake and popcorn will be served. A large crowd is expected.
Joseph O'Sullivan and Reginald Dunn were hanged at Wandsworth for the assassination of Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson on June 22. About 50 Irish demonstrators gathered outside the jail, singing and praying as the condemned entered the scaffold and faces showed quiet resolve. Relatives mourned outside, and prayers were led for the two souls.

Goshen city council last night adopted a compromise bus ordinance requiring motor bus line operators to prove financial responsibility for damages from 1000 to 2500 dollars. The measure aims to protect traction lines and allow a union-station plan amid ongoing legal challenges in nearby cities. The council also adjusted the traffic code to protect Goshen Hospital and discussed a possible 10 000 dollar hospital-expansion levy.
