A telegram to Indiana state conscription officer Jesse Eschbach indicates about one third of Indiana s new army quota may be ordered to report between September 1 and 5 for training. Local exemption boards are rushing to complete their work as the first Indiana contingent nears departure.
Gov. Goodrich prepared data for a special Indiana legislature session likely to be issued early next week with a possible convening date around August 21. A coal situation conference with Illinois Gov. Lowden may trigger simultaneous sessions in both states.
County commissioners refused to commit 10000 for a municipal heating system in Goshen, agreeing only to 2200 annually if the city installs it. After routine business, they adjourned to Monday to receive bids for a bridge over the St Joseph River at Elkhart Avenue in Elkhart.

Mrs Crebellion Jacobs 78 of Sturgis Mich died at her daughter's home in Chicago. Margaret Anglin 73 died of creeping paralysis at Etna Green. Gabriel Straus 72, formerly of Ligonier, died at his Cleveland home. Remains interred in the Jewish cemetery at Ligonier. Mrs Samuel Boughter formerly of Warsaw died at Benton Harbor Mich. Ina Nelson 23 of Winona Lake died after brief heart illness at Dr Baldwin sanitarium Kalamazoo Mich.

Ulysses Lamb 75 was found dead on the lawn of his River Park home in a South Bend suburb. It is believed he took his own life. A teapot with carbolic acid was near the body under a rose bush. Lamb had lived in River Park for 15 years.
