A locomotive boiler blast near Ruple pit seven miles southwest of South Bend kills engineer William Kisman and fireman D V Holden. Passenger F B Lay is injured as a trainload of travelers survives the blast with one damaged car and crews rushing relief and recovery efforts.
An Elkhart liveryman reports Trvin Fisgus living seven miles south of Hikhart on Prairie Street road vanished after a dispute with his wife. He had just sold on ions and told a tale of domestic unhappiness before his disappearance.

Fire destroyed a barn on Sam Raver’s farm near Middlebury last night, burning hay, wheat, two horses and a cow. Neighbors helped but could not save the buildings. Insurance partially covers the loss. Raver plans a new barn in days. This is Raver’s third barn loss in years, two from lightning.
Severe storms yesterday caused damage in this region. Three cows owned by John Barnhart of Osceola were killed by lightning. A barn between Union and Vandalia in Michigan owned by Jasper Smeltzer burned to the ground after a strike, with livestock saved. Henry Lucke 32 a farmer living southwest of South Whitley was killed by a lightning strike yesterday afternoon while threshing on the Clark Pence farm four miles northeast of town. Ira Beecher Adam Snyder and son Wiley Heller William Miner and Floyd Montz were injured but expected to recover. They sought shelter in the granary but heat drove them out before the fatal strike.

A 1:30 westbound interurban struck a Studebaker touring car owned by Emmit Kerlin of Goshen at Kundred crossing four miles west of Goshen on the Goshen Elkhart road. The Studebaker, with four men aboard traveling Goshen to Elkhart, was demolished but all occupants escaped injury.
Lambright, 15, Elkhart Wish student, died of blood poisoning after stepping on a rusty nail at Christiana lake on July 19. Survived by parents and one brother. Blass, 9, daughter of Ma and Mrs Wm Blass of Elkhart, died this morning at 10 from heart leakage. Mrs Blass is sister to Mrs Motrice and Mrs Smith of this city.
John Terrell Vawter, 85, retired and philanthropist, died at his Franklin Indiana home of his brother in law J M Story. He had lived there 60 years and is credited with developing Vawter Park at Lake Wawa See.
Mr and Mrs George Stults of Kim mell are in General hospital Elkhart with their daughter who underwent a very serious operation. Puss formed and a draining tube was inserted.

Frank W Hawks formerly ran Hawks Fur Co and other local concerns. he visited Goshen in February and may return for a short visit before going back to Pasadena.
Lightning destroyed a barn owned by James Long at Millersburg killing three horses and damaging hay and grain stored inside. Henry Cohn reports losses from a nearby barn fire caused by the same storm with other minor disasters in the area. Partial insurance was noted.
A swimming tournament for lake residents and amateur guests is set for today to celebrate Lake Wawasee Cup Day. Events include a 0 yard boys under 14 race, row boat for boys at 10 am, women's canoe single and double at 11 am, 50 yard swims for women and men plus an obstacle race for men at Vanter Park 2 pm, and long distance and under water men’s swims at Johnson Park 4 pm.
