Death of Goshen Resident John Fitzpatrick
John Fitzpatrick died this forenoon at 9:25 at his son's home after a brief illness and an operation. Born in Galway Ireland about 73 years ago he came to America in 1851 and lived in New York Sandusky Fort Wayne before moving to Goshen to live with his son. Survived by wife Elizabeth two sons Rev James B Fitzpatrick and M F Fitzpatrick one daughter Margaret and sister Mrs Bridget Maley. Funeral at St Johns Catholic Church Wednesday at 9:30 with sermon by Very Rev John Cavanaugh Notre Dame president.

Lake Shore rail expansion eyed with four track right of way
Lake Shore plans to buy a 25 foot wide right of way on both sides of the main line at Chesterton and spends 200000 on improvements including iron shan ties. A new freight depot at LaPorte should be ready by September first while Goshen lacks definite plans for a third track past the passenger station. The Commercial Exchange may push for immediate modernization of the oil station and freight house, and a petition could gauge public demand for the changes.

Death on Roof Prompted Tragic Burial in Burnington
John Zimmer died after falling from a roof while sweeping wasp nests at his home in Burnington La. He left a will dividing one third to his sister Mrs Henry Dick of this city one third to his niece Mrs Henrietta Keupper at whose home he died and one third to the Lutheran church of Burlington Ia. The article also notes a bankruptcy hearing for Abe Kaatz in South Bend before Referee Lambert with many witnesses creditors and lawyers attending and Elkhart County Trust Co named trustee to close the business. Peculiar Michigan Death
David Garrett of Silver Creek township Cass county Michigan died from injuries after a strange mishap while driving a hog. He picked up a club and the hog lunged, striking his abdomen with the stick. Pain grew severe and he died within 24 hours. He was 57 years old.

Robbery on Lake Shore Ends Bizarre Ride
Walter Anderson, 17, and two companions boarded a Lake Shore train car in Elkhart. He alleges thieves attacked them, stole a $10 gold piece, and kicked him off near Milburn by Toledo. He claims two bakemen refused aid and the crew fled the scene.

Special Judge William J. Davis ruled for Eddie Collins in the Ford Lighting Co. of Elyria Ohio suit to collect notes paid for a plant deemed unsatisfactory and discarded. The case, appealed by the plaintiff, involved claims of insurance approval by Ford systems and testimony that insurance was refused after Collins placed the plant in his saloon. Plaintiff asserts two other Ford plants operate in Goshen with insurance never refused.

Lulu Roose daughter of Rev and Mrs Hiram Roose died Thursday at noon at the family residence two miles east of Wakaruaza aged 11. She had been ill a few days. Survived by parents three brothers Vernon Homer Emmett and one sister Susie a twin sister died in infancy. Funeral Sunday at 9 am at home with Rev Emanuel Deeter. Cork swallowed by Mrs Willis Crammer of Elkhart

Martha Goodlin of North Fifth Street kept The Goshen Democrat files from November 4 1857 to October 19 1864. The volumes passed from Capt F Abbott who left the paper in August 1862 to join the Union forces. After his death the files went to his mother Mrs Lois Abbott and later to Miss Martha Goodlin, his niece.
