Council met last evening approving ordinances and orders directing contractor A.M. Smith to construct the severed section of North Street. Officials authorized funds and set project milestones for the street work and related improvements.
The Goshen common council met with all aldermen present and discussed sidewalk construction on Wilson Avenue, a sewer on North Eighth Street, and a four inch water main to East Goshen church. A 40 foot street width proposal for South Street hydrants was debated, with final actions pending inspection today.
The government activated 208 automobile rural delivery routes yesterday across eight states. About 11.40 miles of routes will be traveled six days a week during August. Routes range from 2.5 to 4 miles, operating nine to twelve months a year, with distributions by Oklahoma 88, Georgia 64, California 24, Texas 14, Florida 18, Colorado 1, Kansas 3, and others.
Warsaw Aug 5 Special W J Bryan will speak at Winona Lake Aug 5 to 20 giving three addresses at the Bible conference. He announced a 1000 dollar gift toward reorganizing Winona Assembly after a sale. Ol Dryas will attend the sale. Bryan will become president once reorganizing is completed.
A man named Michael Mason, associated with Limetown, was injured when impaled on a lowered steering gear post near Oakland City. His companion Mrs Matsom and a child were also lured into the area and sustained minor injuries.
Government census figures show Detroit’s auto industry generating about 500 million dollars in the year ending June 30. The rise marks a fivefold increase from two years ago, transforming the city from a quiet village to a bustling industrial center.

The funeral for W. E. Eldridge will be held tomorrow at 2 30 PM at the Baptist church with Rev. H. Robert Smith officiating. Interment follows at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The body is taken to the church at 10 AM and may be viewed until 2 PM. The Loyal Order of Moose will handle charges.

Edward L. Fulkerson of St. Mary's farm at Notre Dame was struck by a Northern Indiana interurban near the St. Mary's stop about 9 45 PM Monday. He died instantly as front wheels mangled his left leg and body, and efforts to stop the car failed. Conductor Joe Raczynski led the halted car. initial identifications misattributed him to Fred Price until Pat Walsh recognized Fulkerson.
A telegram received from New York informs Harry Fink in Los Angeles that his father V. Fink is in critical condition. The sender says the son is in the Grand Canon and expected in New York City next Sunday. The note notes Fink travels regularly from Los Angeles to New York to buy goods for the New York Store.
Middlebury reports good attendance at the opening of its first chautauqua yesterday despite rain. The townspeople express satisfaction with the event. Also noted is Rutan of Clinton county who has worked as a thresher for 52 years, starting at age 14 and remaining active at 67. The Fair seeks an experienced saleslady for the grocery department.
The secretaries of Goshen Lodge No. 850 announce a meeting at the hall tonight to arrange the funeral of Brother Eldridge. F. T. Osborn, dictionary? secretary, issues the notice.

The Elkhart dental office of Dr J W Stamp was robbed shortly after 6 pm while he was home. The burglar entered after he left, took about $75 in gold and rings, and left no clear clue for police.
