Century Train Kills Inmate Near Goshen Infirmary
Andrew Burkhart nearly 99 a Swiss native and longtime Goshen resident and infirmary inmate was fatally struck by westbound Century train No 25 while walking along tracks near the poor farm at 7 15 this morning. His mangled body was discovered by an eastbound freight engineer who halted and backed to the scene. Burkhart had lived on North Side Goshen for years and came to the country from Switzerland 51 years ago. Funeral services are set for the grave at Oak Ridge cemetery with Rev Waltner officiating. He had left a Goshen property to Fred Mehnert for burial expenses following his wife’s death.
