Dr C A Inks of Nappanee physician member of Goshen district exemption board will begin examining registrants tomorrow as the district prepares to meet its quota of 133 men. If all married men with dependent wives are exempted up to 1000 may be examined to fill the quota.
William W. Churchill 86 died this afternoon after 1 o'clock at the home of his daughter Mrs. Clark Kelly 218 South Third street where he had lived for 18 years. Born in Oxford New York in 1831 he later moved to Bryan Ohio before settling in this city. He is survived by daughter Mrs. Clark Kelly and son Austin Churchill with two sons and a daughter dead. Funeral arrangements to be announced later.
The body of Adiel DeMeyer, 24, of South Bend, was identified after a drowning at Chain lakes near South Bend. He had lived there two years and had no relatives in the city.
Perry P Gnivecki a South Bend militiaman and Miss Roney T Borkowska of Pittsburgh Pa were married at Mishawaka The wedding was celebrated at high mass in St Bavo's Catholic church.
Henry E. Hardesty, a watchman at the Main street crossing of the Big Four railroad, is the holder of a ten cent Russian coin sent by his son in law Karl I Mueller of Detroit, Michigan.
Appraisement of the Studebaker estate of South Bend for taxation was increased by 1,911,485 by the state board of tax commissioners.

George D. Copeland, 14 years old when he left Goshen, died at his Oakland California home. He served with the Goshen Times around 1864 and had been married twice, survived by his wife and two sons. His body will be cremated after arrangements by E. James Finney of Oakland. Surviving sister-in-law Mrs. Harriet Latta had been connected to Goshen. He left Goshen over 30 years ago.
Detachment of Winchester Indiana militia guard at the New York Central bridge west of Goshen since April 3 is withdrawn for transport to Chicago to rejoin Capt. Davis's company. Lieut Daly commanded here and recruited over 15 men. Carl Mendenhall remains in Goshen hospital with serious injuries from a fall into the Elkhart River. Ernest Rossa was discharged after injury.
The 13th annual Christian Citizenship Institute at Winona Lake urged moral governance over self interest. Conducted by the National Reform Association of Pittsburgh, delegates were elected to the World Citizenship Conference to meet in Pittsburgh in July 1918 to shape postwar reconstruction on Christian principles. The prior Portland conference drew 15,000 attendees with fourteen countries represented.
The New Jersey public utilities commission approves the New York Central to issue 70 million dollars of 4 percent consolidated bonds to retire Lake Shore collateral bonds. It also allows 10 million dollars of 4.4 percent refunding and improvement bonds. Bonds may be sold at no less than 93.5 percent of face value plus accrued interest.

Fred Hite, 15, son of Jesse Hite of Pendleton, was killed when a Big Four train struck the buggy he rode in. The accident occurred as the vehicle collided with the locomotive, ending a young life.

Washington Aug. 1 The deadlock among conferees on the administration food control bill ended as lawmakers agreed to strike out the congressional committee on war expenses. All Goshen members of Company IE Third regiment M G Elkhart have been notified to mobilize in Goshen at 10 o clock Sunday morning. Guardsmen expected to proceed to Fort Benjamin Harrison Indianapolis before heading to the Hattiesburg training camp.

Goshen resident Peck, 25, promoted to second lieutenant for Battery D in the First Artillery Indiana National Guard unit. He earned a service bonus after earlier mobilization and training at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Peck, son of Mr and Mrs Deck, was born in Milwaukee and moved to Goshen 18 years ago after attending Purdue and Goshen schools.
At a special stockholders meeting held at the corporation office last night Rock Run Mills elected officers and directors. President is Wm H Charnley. Vice President B F Deahl. Secretary B C Stephenson. Treasurer W L Stephenson. Asst Treasurer W L Stephenson. Directors include Charnley Deahl Stephenson Dow Nymeyer and Stephenson. An executive committee of Dow Deahl and Stephenson was formed. The firm plans to expand as business grows and will move one department to outside quarters.
In Indianapolis today Elkhart residents gather for a meeting to advocate changes to Indiana’s constitution. Represented groups include the Elkhart forum, Elk hart W. C. T. U., the Elkhart Woman's Franchise league, and the Central Labor Union of Elkhart.
Mrs. L. L. Harkness, wife of White's Manual Labor Institute superintendent, died at her sister's home near Hudson Michigan. Her death leaves 230 children at Ft Wayne's institute motherless as she had been a central guardian and caregiver.
Miss Rose Kline of Silver Lake has deteriorated under wartime anxiety and is now placed in the Warsaw jail. She is the daughter of Kosciusko county farmer Martin Kline.

Charles Pickel a 16 year old South Bend boy was found hidden in the Auditor ium theatre at 2 am. Police say the youth hid there to rob the office safe.
