Racing notes on New Zealand jockeys and Australian gold
New Zealand rider J O Shea plans to apply for a passport to ride Desert Gold and other horses in Australia. He previously rode Desert Gold in New Zealand but could not get military clearances to travel. O Shea has 32 Dominion winners this year. Desert Gold and Arch Marella feature highly in Melbourne Cup talk, with Biplane, Shadowland, and others also named. The Comedy King colt was scratched from the Epsom and Metropolitan handicaps but remains in the Caulfield Cup conversation.
