First National To Present Artist Come And Take It Weekend

Virginia Lehman, a Gonzales native and art educator with 30 years teaching Weslaco, showcases portraits still lifes and landscapes in an exhibition at First National Bank Gonzales. The public is invited Friday September 30 from 10 am to noon and 2 to 5 pm.

The Gonzales area faces partly cloudy and warm weather through Thursday. Overnight Wednesday will drop into the upper 60s with daytime highs around 90 on Thursday. Southeasterly winds are expected at 10 to 15 mph.

Young Farmers To Hold Family Barbecue

The Gonzales Young Farmer Chapter will hold a family barbecue Thursday September 22 at 7 p.m. at the Lion's Unit in Independence Park. A defensive driving program will be presented by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Steve Ehrig is in charge. Tommy Lester is program chairman. All members and their families are urged to attend.

Gonzales County Hospital District approves 1978 budget

The Gonzales County Hospital District adopted an 811,200 operating budget for 1978 at Holmes Community Hospital. About 64 percent funds salaries and 36 percent other costs, with estimated revenue of 774,000 and a 36,300 deficit. Utilities and supplies costs rise and patient transfers to Bexar County Hospital face proof of insurance issues.

Winter Pasture Planting Tour Draws 55 Producers

A recent Winter Pasture Planting Tour attracted 55 producers to learn minimum tillage and overseeding for high quality winter forage. Demonstrations by Noel Buster Lindemann and William Fink showcased two winter pasture systems. Dr J Neal Pratt of Texas A&M Extension spoke on fertilization and management to boost profitability. Norman Kohls advised on oat wheat ryegrass and clover varieties. Planting of winter forage is in full swing and expected to benefit Gonzales County.

Breath of Life Campaign chaired by Thomas E. Burrows

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation aims to help C F patients grow from childhood to college or work. Burrows notes progress in diagnosis and care, emphasizes continued need for support via the Breath of Life Campaign with a September door to door march.

United Fund Budget Meeting Scheduled

The Gonzales United Fund Budget and Admissions Committee will meet Wednesday Sept 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the City Building to plan the 1978 United Fund Drive budget. The meeting is open to the public with organizations including Scouts USA Girl Scouts of America American Red Cross Salvation Army Cerebral Palsy Warm Springs Gonzales Youth Center and Bluebonnet Youth Ranch listed.
