The Holmes Community Hospital district tests an infant intensive care center costing 3000 dollars. The unit includes heat lights and temperature control with a sensor on the infant’s stomach. Three sides drop for access, emergency meds and IV fluids nearby, and oxygen piped in. Donor support will fund future nurseries.
Waelder residents may submit multiple slogans for welcome signs at entry roads. The Waelder Industrial Development Association will judge entries at the next board meeting after Aug. 31. Each winner receives ten dollars for a slogan promoting Waelder's future. Slogans due at City Hall.
Williamson County Sheriff August H. Bosshard, 55, died Friday of an apparent heart attack at his home in Georgetown. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. from Davis funeral home with Rev. F.T. Van Antwerp officiating. burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Bosshard, World War II veteran, served about 20 years in the sheriff's department and was active in church and civic affairs. Survivors include wife Vida, daughter Deborah Jo of Austin, a step-daughter, two granddaughters, four sisters, and two brothers. He was born August 30, 1919, in Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Fifteen job training programs at the McKinney Texas Job Corps Center serve youths aged 16 to 21 from Gonzales. Training includes room and board, no student charge, with current programs for 495 women and 125 men. Vocational options include clerk, cashier, nurse assistant, dental, cook, welder electrician, and more, under Texas Educational Foundation Inc. contract to the U S Department of Labor.
Texas State Rep. Joe Hubenak of Rosenberg will headline the South Central Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts meeting in Schulenburg on Tuesday September 13. The event starts at 7 30 p m at Frank's Restaurant with Stefka noting Hubenak's three term chairmanship of the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee and his roles on Social Services Rules and Corrections subcommittees overseeing the Texas Youth Council and the Texas Department of Corrections.

Ada Head and Elder Dixon spotted a five foot rattlesnake on Greenwood Road. Dixon loaded a gun and fired at least four times as the snake coiled. The pair then used an ax to finish the animal after it attempted to crawl away. The serpent bore 16 rattlers.
The Gonzales High School Thespians Troupe 1289 seeks assistance for an upcoming play. Members invite volunteers and donations to support set design costumes and production needs.
Rear Admiral Woodrow Wilson McCrory died at his Austin home on September 3. Born June 21, 1914 in Waelder Texas, he served in submarines and as commander of Naval Forces in Korea and Amphibious Training Command, with five Washington tours. retired December 1967. Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The article also notes a Gonzales Texas theater event and Thespians seeking archival clothing and researcher volunteers.

Mrs. Laura Lee Boots Zella died Tuesday at 4 am in John Sealy Hospital Galveston. Funeral Wednesday at 5 pm Seydler Hill chapel with Rev. Walter Lentz and Rev. Edward Bily officiating. Burial in Gonzales Memorial Park. Survivors include husband Adolph Zella five sons and other relatives. Born November 2 1932 in Alice she was a member of First Lutheran Church.
