School Opens With Expanded Curriculum and New Staff

The city public schools restart on September 13 under Prof. Nelson who will lead the system. Hugo Clum heads the agricultural department and Miss Alice Kolers will teach high school English. G. M. Hanson arrives to teach manual training while a new Junior High covers grades six and seven. A commercial course grows, Miss Cora Welsch will teach commercial subjects, and typewriting/stenography will follow. The musical program is suspended for the year. The Farmers' Co operative Produce office gains E L Vonberg of Minneapolis. An unusually large attendance is anticipated.

Gas Flow Spurs Baker Oil Boom in Montana

A massive gas flow was struck a mile north of Baker, Montana, after months of drilling. The plume fills the area with activity as geologists map a 50 by 60 mile oil belt and leases flood in from buyers and large oil firms. Kennedy and Warren secured leases on about 10 000 acres as companies plan more wells.

State Board Levy Report Shows 1915 Increases

The state board of equalization raises real estate lands 14 percent and improvements 20 percent. City and village lots gain 20 percent, with improvements on those lots also at 20 percent. Personal property taxes remain unreported.

Mrs Whitaker Hosts Birthday Party for Margaret

Mrs. F. W. Whitaker gave a party Saturday for her daughter Margaret's fourth birthday. More than twenty children attended and enjoyed an afternoon of refreshments including sandwiches ice cream and cake. Margaret received several presents.

Parcels Post Indemnity Increased Announcement

The postmaster general announced via the local office that parcel insurance maximum doubles from fifty to one hundred dollars. Insurance rates shift, with twenty five cents charged to insure a one hundred dollar value package. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Martin Hess on Sunday.

The seven reel photo drama The Escape based on Paul Armstrong's play screens at the Beach opera house on Tuesday Sept 7. It follows a slum raised girl who escapes poverty and a wealthy marriage to become worthy of love while her unfit sister remains trapped in misery. Eastern Campaign Review Estimates Huge Russian Losses

Berlin reports an Overseas News Agency review placing Russian losses since May 2 at at least 300 000 killed or wounded and 1 100 000 captured. Russians were driven from Galicia Poland Courland and Lithuania as German and Austrian forces pressed the Austro German offensive in under four months.

Bridge Appropriations Come In From Medora Effort

G N Keniston returned from vacation and helped raise funds for a new bridge at Medora. Beach faces a 1500 levy and a 600 first day total, with Sept 10 as a deadline. Donations may be sent to committee members Attletweed Egan and Plomasen to avoid diverting traffic to Marmarth on the Yellow Trail.

Binder Accident Severs Scalp on Farm Wreck

Rex Lahamann became trapped under a binder on the Sherping farm run by Steve Little when the machine collapsed. The bull wheel struck his forehead tearing away the scalp. The injury was dressed immediately and he is expected to recover.

Craze Boy Drowns Self in Red River at Hospital Front

Grand Forks Sept 3 Gordon Bonstad an 18 year old patient at St Michaels hospital drowned in the Red river after escaping from a nurse and leaping from the river bank despite hospital precautions. He was held in bed with a restraining sheet prior to the fatal plunge and was found drowned after swimming several minutes.

Glendive Baseball Player Killed In Hunting Car Crash

George Hanson known as Big Tray a rising attorney and star ball player for the Glen dive Montana team died in a car crash while hunting west of Glendive He was a Minnesota graduate former St Louis American player and had practiced law in Glendive for three years His body was sent to Bode Iowa where his parents reside Mourning swept the city with support from Beach and Wibaux players who sent a wreath to his former home.

British Viewpoint on Submarine Settlement In London Papers

London newspapers agree Britain cannot accept a settlement that classifies a passenger liner differently from a merchant ship and crew. They favor reinstituting protections for non combatants and cite Wilson’s February note defining the law.
