F R B Grants New 3 Percent Loan Rule
On September 27 the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis notified Northwest member banks that they may borrow at 3 percent. Banks acting as brokers must charge borrowers no more than 6 percent, with grain as collateral stored with elevators. Loans limited to 90 days and negotiable with market fluctuation viewed. This reduces farmers interest margins from 10–12 percent to about 6 percent, easing Northwest burdens. Local bankers had ample funds and often did not borrow from the Fed. Prior to Sept 24 rates were 5 percent for 90 day loans and 4 percent for 60 days.

Mondan October 14 George Dobson aged 45 formerly of Dickinson died twelve hours after a gasoline flame exploded while he cleaned clothes at his Imperial California home. He had moved to California years earlier to trade stock in the Imperial Valley and was burned severely in the fire that destroyed his dwelling.
Athletes Hike to Sentinel Butte in Training Stunt
A high school basketball team led by home coach Palmer Eide and standout George Dobson hiked to Sentinel Butte as part of training. The party included Delo and Phil Paulson along with other members. two brothers of Mrs Haskin accompanied, returning after a wreck years earlier. The trek took about two hours and fifteen minutes, with a funeral planned for Saturday for one member.
