Railroads to Mandan Glendive Seen as Near Certainty

The Mandan to Miles City south line will likely reach New England this year and join the Miles City route at Mott with work already let to Porter Bros Welch of Spokane. North and south routes are expected to be completed by fall 1910, with Mandan Glendive line contracted to Simms & Co of St. Paul and bids sought from several national contractors.

Rural Route In Operation At Beach

Beach unveils its first rural mail route with three applicants passing exam. B H Moulton served temporarily, then Chas Kidder was appointed as the regular carrier. Residents prepare mail boxes. about 112 households on route. Community advocates additional routes west and south toward Carlyle.

Beach leads other towns in April freight activity

In April Beach handled 20 cars of emigrant goods and 27 cars of lumber at its three yards. Total freight reached 1 835 tons, with local office receipts over 17 000 dollars. Eleven cars of grain were shipped, totaling 350 tons of freight. Beach stands out for its high business volume along the line.

Mill interest grows as Wells and Helm eye Beach site

E P Wells and H T Helm of Russell Miller Milling Co visited Beach after a Billings trip to assess a potential new mill. They noted large production needs and a 600 000 bushel minimum, but gave no firm plans. They also checked brick supply for a Billings mill and left for Minneapolis, with a Beach site reportedly likely. A Rocky Butte hall dance will follow on May 14 with tickets at one dollar.

Miles City rural notes and early season baseball events

Mrs. Barrett joins her husband in Miles City after a visit with sister. A girl was born May 1 to Mr. and Mrs. Buck, though the family hoped for a boy. Local dance at F Koch’s draws light attendance. Local sports feature practice games on the diamond with tied score after eight innings and a loss for Yates at Beech’s Beach. Next Sunday Yates visits for a regular season clash.

Wells Beset for Local Landowners Near Barber Plot

John Madison the well man has finished a well for William Woodhull north of F. E. Near's and is now drilling for C. E. Barber. Barber plans to descend several hundred feet and has ordered special casing to exclude surface water while hoping for fresher water from deeper underground veins.

East Road to Beach Fixes Begun by Local Subscription

The east road to Beach via the railroad corridor between sections 25 and 30 is being repaired for heavy loads. J J Bartley and the Chronicle editor spoke with business leaders, and a subscription run by F F Near and E E Noble secured funds. Knox and Barber will oversee work, aiming for completion within a week. a full expense report and surplus refunds to subscribers will follow.

Auditor McGregor Accused Of Illicit Fees In Billings County

Medora officials review Chapter 70 of 1907 laws as Auditor McGregor allegedly diverted deed certification fees from the county. The board, with State's Attorney Keohane and Attorney General opinion, orders reimbursement, though McGregor has not yet disgorged the funds. The salary cap, tied to county valuation, is $1,600 with excess fees payable to the revenue fund.

Attorneys Denoyer and Purchase Move to Larger Office

Attorneys Joseph Denoyer and Go Purchase have moved into larger rooms over the Dickinson Power store, replacing the old MacTock office. Denoyer claims a large library of law books and notes his long practice in Beach, with improved space to serve clients in Billings County.
