Burke for U. S. Senator in 2 Years

Washington reports suggest former North Dakota Governor John Burke now U S treasurer will seek the U S Senate in two years. President Wilson orders restoration to entry of about 887000 acres in North Dakota set aside for coal examination. 675000 acres are non coal and 212000 contain coal with coal reserved to the government.

Burke Insurance Loan Agency sets hail loss record

The Burke Insurance Loan Agency posted a record in adjusting 15 hail losses totaling 10246.61 within 44 hours of the storm. Checks arrived early in the week and all losses were adjusted and paid within a week. Adjuster Cowell of Valley City handled the case. The notice also mentions other local business items and a post office rate change on parcel post stamps.

District Court Adjourned After Weeklong Session

District Court adjourned last Thursday after a week in session. The State's Attorney Halliday failed to secure a conviction in most criminal cases. in the Kregness wife desertion case the jury disagreed. A not guilty verdict was returned in the Roof-Reeve case after lively courtroom involvement. Atty. Denoyer defended Herman Myers in a bootlegging case, resulting in not guilty. Several civil actions were tried or continued until fall term. For sale three Percheron stallions, 2 and 3 years old, Alden Mosher, Buelsdale, N Dak. Atty. Jones returned from Mayo Clinic in Rochester after an operation.

New Gambling Law Enforced Across North Dakota

The North Dakota Enforcement League now enforces a new law declaring gambling a common nuisance and closing or pad locking buildings where any gambling occurs. Owners must prevent gambling to avoid one year closure. The notice references complaints for child protection and urges vigilance by local business owners.

Accident at Wibaux parallels earlier local injury

John Sutherland, brother of Dan Sutherland, was thrown from a horse while roping a steer. The horse toppled and paralyzed his side leaving him unconscious. He was found on the prairie and brought to Dan Sutherland’s home for care by Dr. Ashley. He will be moved to Dickinson hospital Wednesday. recovery prospects are unclear.

Fargo Opium Dens Raided

Fargo police and federal agents raided opium dens in the city early Sunday, arresting mainly African American suspects for opium violations while three white men faced charges of maintaining a speakeasy. Evidence included pipes and a layout seized for federal prosecutions under Judge Engerud.

Chris Sartori Dies After Appedix Operation at Dickinson

Chris Sartori aged about 55 died at St. Joseph's hospital in Dickinson following an appendicitis operation. He had lived in the area four and a half years after moving from Lockport Illinois. The body was shipped to Wibaux for burial accompanied by his wife Mrs Sartori and one son. He leaves a wife, four sons and two daughters.
