Storm claims life of Wm Henry Kirch near Burkey

A Tuesday storm caused the death of Wm Henry Kirch three miles north of Burkey when a hastily built dwelling collapsed during gusts and hail. Kirch, awakened in the structure with companion Paul Welsh, died as the building fell. The companion was uninjured. Kirch’s body was sent to Mazomanie Wisconsin with Welsh. The storm damaged property across the Valley with severe winds and hail especially south of Beach and north of Burkey and Carlyle.

Burkey Notes July 5 Celebration Nears

Burkey will celebrate the fifth of July as the fourth falls on Sunday. J. B. Stoddard and family visited the Huncks Monday. Miss Mary Wachner of Royalton Minnesota visited last week and will return home the end of the week. She owns a fine Burkey farm and was an early homesteader. Frank Schrum did business in Beach Thursday. Mrs. J. L. Denton traded in Beach Friday. F. J. Snow visited Beach. Children day was observed at the schoolhouse with a good program. The Sunday school plans a July third picnic near the Fonka ranch by the river with Alpha, Carlyle, Rocky Butte, and Williams represented at services. Mrs. W. H. Hunck served ice cream and cake Sunday afternoon. Weather cooled after scorchers, aiding corn and vegetables as grain advances.

Wild West Show By Billings County Cowboys At Medora

Bill McCarthy a Billings county rancher has organized a wild west show to tour eastward and will perform at Medora next Monday with his ranch outfit mess wagons and a 20 piece cowboy band. The event features 100 riders on bucking branches steer roping and branding 50 head of cattle in a classic round up style promising a genuine wild west spectacle for locals and visitors.

Insane vagrant placed in village jail by marshal

A half demented man without hat or shoes was halted by mill workers who alerted the marshal. He refused to give his name and, after being jailed, tore his fee into ribbons. He awaits examination by the insanity board and will likely be sent to Jamestown asylum. The Congregational Church Ladies Aid met at Mrs. C. E. Barber’s home, elected new officers, and appointed a working committee.

Man in Williston Declared Insane Over Government Inspector Delusion

A Williston man named Hames has been adjudged insane after claiming to be a government land inspector. The piece notes protests to final proofs in North Dakota and suggests board review for several special agents in the state.

Carlyle Correspondence Reports Rain and Community News

The Carlyle area received a refreshing rain aiding crops and gardens. A new church is planned with substantial funds raised and site donated by Mr. Clocksin. Visitors from Beach attended Wells Olson celebration. sports included Carlyle and Beach games, Tug of War Montana vs North Dakota, and Victor Clocksin won $30 in a horse race. Haying and a large crop are anticipated after a wet spring.

Dr A B MacNab and Miss Glenette Kingsbury wed in Cassopolis Michigan on June 20. The ceremony was at the bride’s home with close family and friends present. They plan to live in Beach North Dakota after brief stops in Chicago.

Rear End Collision At Sentinel Butte Injures Nine

Special to the Chronicle A rear end collision near Sentinel Butte at midnight injured nine people and killed about twenty horses. Freight trains No 1904 and No 54 collided with a westbound impact that demolished seven cars. Injured include Archie Sanders J W Hayes C R Brickner and others. Conductor Harry Lawrence led No 54 and Conductor Poor led 1904 with Otto Rosenau as engineer.

Beach business adds new men s clothing firm at Beach

M. W. Power leaves E E Dickinson to team with Nick Wagner of Wadena to open an exclusive men s clothing and furnishing store. They plan a new building and a August start, with Tom Power joining the enterprise. Wagner has fifteen years in retail clothing in Wadena and leaves with public regard.
