The city council approved a twenty year electric light franchise for Geo Chrysler of Wadena Minnesota after lengthy negotiations. Construction is to begin by April with a 125 horsepower power plant to be built on the mill spur site near the river, employing many workers through spring and summer.

Regular Burkey correspondent notes Henry Buck visiting relatives in the eastern part of the state. Ira Burkey and wife took a trip to Rochester for medical treatment and Ira is reported very ill with typhoid fever. Oliver Moyer bought a team at Sentinel Butte horse sale, Willie Steinman aided the move home. L. D. Page purchased a horse at the same sale. Storm halted mail delivery to Burkey for a week, with a large load arriving Saturday. A cold epidemic grips the country. Schwinghammer Bros. sell personal property and plan to return north. Other items include engagements, visits to Beach, and storms that left farmers short on coal.

A plan originated at Marmarth proposes dividing Billings and Bowman into four counties with new seats at Bowman Medora Marmarth Beach and Beach. A petition to cut off the south townships of Billings and annex them to Bowman is circulating for next county commissioner meetings. Madison Wins Auto in Chronicle Piano Contest
The Chronicle held its big auto piano contest at the opera house last Monday night. John Madison won the first prize the automobile with 10 699 850 votes while L J Erickson took second prize the piano with 7 669 150 votes Gunda Knuteen and Melissa Brown garnered smaller totals. The paper notes record circulation growth and thanks contributors.

New NP to receive ten new observation library buffet cars
The Northern Pacific Railway will take delivery March 1 of ten new observation cars of the type used on the North Coast Limited and the Northern Pacific Express. The through 72 hour Chicago Portland train will gain barber and bath facilities a library of current fiction and travel magazines and an a la carte dining car service. Electric lighting and standard drawing room and tourist sleeping cars will operate between Chicago and Portland and between Chicago and Seattle and Tacoma.

He doubts the mill portion will proceed without a solution to surplus water. a spring effort is needed.
