Staples Taken Back From Dickinson to Glendive

Charles H. Staples alias Frank Smith, sought for stealing a rig and selling it at Medora, was captured in Billings and returned to Dickinson. Reputed outlaw with a long western record, he assaulted an officer in Park City jail and escaped from Dickinson, later arrested again in Billings. He quarreled over a $50 reward paid to officer LaVelle. Governor Norris aided his transfer. Staples faces district court after a preliminary hearing. his run of escapes and alias raise safety concerns.

The Sentinel Butte Comedy Co presented A Cheerful Liar at the Beach Opera House last Friday night to an overflowing house. J L Hutchins starred as the title role with his wife Flora Boomer impressing the audience. the cast included Hastings Hassel Randolph Dearborn J B Singer Gene Boomer Rev Ezra Stiggins Tom Smith Guy McGuffin C S Bennett Birdie Sweetlove and Mrs C R McCloskey. A post show dance drew a good crowd.

Destructive House Fire Damages Barber Residence

A blaze on the north side last evening damaged the Barbers residence of C. E. Barber. Started near 9 15 p m by a girl dropping a lamp, the fire ruined dining room and parlor furniture including a piano and left the home needing replastering. Firemen and water extinguished it in about an hour. The child helped evacuate siblings to safety with help from neighbors.
