A parish event invites all ages to a sociable night at the Con pregetisnel church and parsonage. Activities include games and light refreshments under the Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavor, followed by a short informal religious service to ring in the new year.
Local post office officials reported a record week handling a large volume of mail and packages. Service to the public was prompt, with gifts sent arriving at the appointed time. Prescott Baer opened the local fire on Christmas Eve to facilitate delivery.
Crowded holiday program directed by Mrs Essene featured a green adorned tree heavy with Christmas toys for Beach children. Merchants and residents seeded funds for all expenses. C B Johnson oversaw the event as the first mini festival. after the Santa moment, gifts and sweets were handed out. Over 400 bags were distributed with many sent to absent children.

Thomas L. Shevlin the Yale football coach and lumberman died of pneumonia at his Minneapolis home after a cold worsened following a season of football. He had traveled from Chicago to Minneapolis by special train to reach him before his death. He carried about two million dollars in insurance and is survived by his wife and two children.
Mandan Pioneer reports Governor Hanna appointments W C Badger and MG Caddell plan upgrades at Fort Rice and Fort Lincoln. A building to house relics will be built at Fort Rice with a custodian to oversee grounds. minor improvements at Fort Lincoln. Legislature previously appropriated 300 dollars. Also proposed loop road with Burleigh and Morton counties to aid travel and ferry access. Nine hundred automobiles sold by Williston dealers last year.
Bismarck North Dakota December 29 There is concern over Governor Hanna’s condition. Private secretary L Ziegler has sent two cables to the governor and two to the American consul with no reply. Mrs Hanna awaits word and hopes for guidance from Mr Hanna before he worsens.
Jamestown attorney J W Carr won a district court verdict for 1500 dollars against Peter Neva his brother John and a third man charged with conspiracy to beat him. Carr had represented a dent in foreclosing a Sea mortgage on the Andrew Neva farm near Court eney.
The comptroller of the currency approved Dunn County State Bank at Kildeer to convert into First National Bank, marking a rebrand and continuation of its banking operations under a national charter.
Over the past week a closing pact transfers Field's half of the Field & Farris partnership to A N Englund. Earlier, a year ago, funds homesteaded south of town and bought the stake from Mr. Feskt Sentaes. Dr C J McCarren, secretary of the state embalmers board, announces embalmers training changes requiring a year of practical work and an exam for licensure.
Tom Thurman a former Kastien school teacher south of town died at the Toni hospital today hours after an operation for peritonitis caused by intestinal obstruction. He had been operated on weeks ago for appendicitis and was recovering when peritonitis developed. His remains were taken to Wibaux for funeral services held there Thursday morning.
The Extension Division of the University of Dakota lists forthcoming lyceum talent for next year with prominent lecturers including Henley Steiner and Newick among others. Musical offerings feature Chicago Opera Company and other groups, promising a diverse season of lectures and concerts.
A special city council meeting ended with a clash between Mayor Brinton and Alderman Lovell over selecting prospective jurors. Lovell sought to veto certain individuals as unfit, while the mayor insisted on a poll list approach. The next day a January term jury list was announced with multiple Beach and Sentinel Butte residents named among the jurors.
District court closed after a busy session in Bismarck with sentences handed down by Judge W. J. Duvele. Jury found Nels Jensen guilty of burglary alleged at J. W. Johncot residence, reportedly taking two gold watches and canned goods. Earl Secord faced joint charges but was not active in the Jensen verdict. jurors for Secord discharged.
The Tri State Grain Growers Convention will hold its 17th annual Fargo meet from January 31 to February 2 with state and national farm authorities delivering addresses. A four day poultry show at Dickinson Armory last week drew large crowds. Following physician advice Henry Ford and the peace party leader who visited Europe returned to the United States as Western railroads announce a freight rate increase effective January 31.
A cash land purchase of about $120000 occurred in Portland, owned by a wealthy woman whose holdings exceed a million dollars. The deal, at roughly 75 per acre, adds to her status as the state's richest landowner. J W Page installed a gas lighting system at his Burkey residence last week, lighting the home like a church, pleasing Mr and Mrs Page.
Valley City announces a new Brotherhood Athletic association housing gym and recreation rooms for boys and girls. Plans include a basketball league indoor baseball and business classes after the holidays with evening sessions and refinishing the floor. The facility will also host the North Dakota Implement Dealers association convention January 25 26 27 offering an active visitor experience.
