A Tuesday night clash at Beach Drug Co. between State's Attorney Gallagher and Dr. Anderson flared into a fistfight over county division. They exchanged blows, toppled a showcase, and were separated by onlookers. State’s Attorney may not prosecute. Hilde rth of Fargo likely to pursue assault with intent to kill charges.
A clipped notice from Beach North Dakota dated April 16 1911 explains an unusual case where eight state attorneys face prosecution by an assistant. It mentions a mare with a crooked angle on the left hind leg weighing about 1000 pounds and a selling price to recover advertising and keeping costs as per law.
The first heavy rain of the year, just one inch, fell last Friday and Saturday near the experiment farm east of town. The valley wide rain lifted spirits, boosting outlook for a strong crop with new land being opened for flax and wheat nearing completion of seeding. Over 50 gasoline plow engines were sold in Beach, aiding spring sowing across the valley.
P H Lee a leading Beach druggist and deputy game warden under Gov Burke is praised as a top Commercial club booster. He joined other boosters on election day for Golden Valley county and vows to mobilize if the supreme court rules against voters, signaling ambitions for 1912.
The secretary of Beach’s commercial club received a note from the Yankee Robinson circus proposing a stop this year. The town would provide free ground license and street parade privileges for Beach to host its first circus day. The circus trains twenty cars and three hundred people, and is a three ring show claiming top performance among traveling circuses.
Frederick Schneider, arriving from Russia with his wife and fourteen of fifteen living children, could not answer in English about funds for his family. He produced rolls of money from his pockets and piled them on the Ellis Island desk, impressing officials and other immigrants with his display of wealth.
Through an interpreter Schneider said his wealth of 26000 came from selling a large farm near Odessa. He planned to travel to Glen Allin North Dakota. Irene Howard sister of Chris Howard will take the night shift at the central telephone office replacing Mrs L W Carlisle formerly Miss Florence Joy who resigned.
Stateline Montana a newly platted town near the state line west of Beach will not receive a liquor license for now. Dawson county commissioners rejected the petition citing need for other enterprises before granting licenses, disappointing townsite promoters and shifting trade away from Beach to Yates.
E. E. Pinkham and wife, seasoned hotel operators from Mandan North Dakota, take over management of a new hotel on the east side built by H. C. Callender. The former Farmers Home plan has been redesigned into a first class hotel with steam heat electric lighting and finished interiors. A sample room large dining room and offices are ready with a bus service to transport patrons from trains. May 15 is the slated opening date.
