Hanna Demands a Square Deal in Canada Reciprocity Debate

In Washington on April 19 Representative Hanna of North Dakota blasted the Canadian reciprocity agreement in a House speech. He argued the plan places farm products on the free list while leaving duties on flour barley malt and flax seed and warned farmers would bear the burden. Former Speaker Cannon also condemned the pact as dangerous to American trade and farmer interests.

Sunday School Convention Proves Well Attended in Golden Valley

The Methodist church hosts a two day Sunday School convention with strong enthusiasm. Mrs. W. W. Towsley elected temporary chairman and presiding with dignity. Rev. Snow and Mrs. Snow attend as national and state secretaries and help organize a permanent Golden Valley chapter to push Sunday school work countywide. C. V. Knox named president, Miss Washington vice president, and Miss Abbie Hennessy treasurer. Bel lfield guest Miss Anna Jacobs visits opera house event.

Otto Stensrud Big Booster for Beach and Valley

Commercial Club booster Otto Stensrud known as Big Otto or Papa Stensrud is a prominent city council member and advocate for Beach. The article praises him as a top booster and notes Otto Stensrud Jr will further boost Beach with projected noisy zeal.

New North Dakota booklet issued by Northern Pacific

The Northern Pacific has issued a 24 page pocket booklet titled North Dakota And Her Boundless Resources by Governor John Burke. One hundred thousand copies are distributed nationally via inquiries to the general passenger department, local offices in eastern cities, the exhibit car touring Ohio, and stationary exhibits at various points. 65 000 Hospital For Dickinson

Contracts signed for a new Catholic hospital at Dickinson with eleven bids on general construction from 65 000 to 105 000. Paris & Son of Fargo won the general contract. Crambs & Peet of Bismarck won the plumbing heating and ventilating work. The Dickinson hospital is expected to be among the region’s finest buildings.

Construction Contract Sets Completion By November 15

A contract requires work to finish by November 15 and aims for occupancy before Christmas. William Potter arrived from Melrose Wisconsin to handle business interests. Mr and Mrs Frank Sawyer and Joe Burke of Minneapolis visited Beach and plan to move near Carlyle this summer. Sawyer owns a half section of Golden Valley soil six and a half miles south of Wibaux.

Lu The Barrier Makes Hit The Barrier

The largest crowd ever for a theatrical performance witnessed last night’s presentation of Rex Beach’s The Barrier. Miss Barham, Mr. Cleveland, and Mr. Calvin drew strong praise, with all actors earning applause. Reserved seats sold out and many were disappointed. Dr. Foster’s twelve piece orchestra received compliments for its music.

Petersen Brothers Win Wibaux Plumbing Contract

Petersen Brothers Heating and Plumbing Co. landed the contract for plumbing and heating in a new house built by Ed Baker in Wibaux. Baker runs the buffet at the Pickering hotel in the city. Though a new concern, the Petersens are gaining a reputation and this is their second Wibaux contract this spring.

Auto Explodes and FliesLanding Caramazed Driver Escapes

Howard J. Egan, a Morris and Mathison sales agent, escaped serious injury when his Brush runabout exploded on a hill south of the city. The car shuddered apart, then rocketed into the air and landed upright in a plowed field. Egan was freed by a nearby farmer, found unharmed aside from nerves, and expected to return to work in a few days.

Pioneer Seeks to Break 200 Acres of Prairie North of City

Mr. Blackburn began work last Monday to break about 200 acres of virgin prairie on L. A. Rogers farm eight miles north of town. Rogers plans to seed the acreage entirely to flax.
