Certainty Gold Mines Complete Canyon Creek Purchase

M de Varennes, managing director of Certainty Gold and Mining Co. Limited, arrived in Golden to finalize the purchase of the Porphyry, Iron Hill, and Wagle Cliff claims for about $9,000. Development shows No 1 tunnel at 40 feet and No 2 at 28 feet with a 34 foot pay-chute in No 2. A winter camp will be set, workmen to double, and a road to the mine may be built to ship ore to Hull Mined Smelter at Nelson.

Prospector Drowned Crossing Kootenay River Ford

On Sunday August 20 at 10 a.m. Jon Garr fell from his horse while crossing the Kootenay River ford at Sinclair Pass and drowned. Accompanied by William Goundry and Lee Crockett the party left Okotoks Alberta for Emlay Cree Wandermere district to assess two claims. Garr a St Lawrence Quebec native, had two Montreal brothers. Goundry and Crockett searched for his body without success and later moved toward Windermere. Goundry and Crockett then left for Finlay Creek on the 27th.

Young Ladies Athletic Club Forms At School House

A meeting of the Young Ladies Athletic Club was held on Monday the 26th. Volunteers were appointed to recruit members: Miss Rania Kenny, Miss Gladys Houston, and Miss Gertrude Fields. They plan to rent Alexander Hall for one night weekly if possible and will use the school house for free if not.
