In Calgary's Big Store on Ste phen Avenue the grocery prices have fallen, prompting readers to request a free illustrated catalogue and price list. The Neilson Furniture Co. offers to mail the catalogues to anyone sending their address.
Golden sits on the CPR main line by the Columbia river steam navigation. It is described as a commercial center for Eastern Columbia and the Gold en Smelting works, Upper Columbia Navigation Co., and lumber. The area is touted as a distributing point for rich mineral country with unmatched scenery ready to attract industries and settlers.
Frigid week with 32 below zero readings and the heaviest snowfall in memory. The Dominion proclaims Thanksgiving as a public holiday next Thursday. A snow slide blocks Thomas B. Reed’s private car. hospital ball postponed a week. Stage, trains disrupted by heavy snow. Oddfellows Hall event and school entertainment planned.
A sub-committee asked the Govt Agent to open the wagon road blocked by heavy snow and to install snow fences along the route. The Agent said a government team would break the road but not repeatedly in future, and several snow fences would be erected at the Windermere end.
Col Baker, arriving from Ottawa, told Donald constituents the CPR shops at Donald would move to Revelstoke. Government offices, court house, and gaol would shift to Golden. He urged trails in McMurdo district, river bank protection, a Kickin Horse dyke, street improvements, and a better wagon road to Fort Steele to compete with American trade. A minimum $3,000 was requested for trails.
A committee appointed by CPR operators and superintendents finished drafting a new work schedule governing hours and wages. In the western division, strike troubles are amicably settled and the schedule will take effect immediately.
