Our Town Golden sits at the CPR main line where the Columbia river steamboat traffic begins. It serves as the mineral and lumber hub of Eastern British Columbia with smelting works and navigation company headquarters.
Mr Fred M Wells visits town this week as do Mr and Mrs H Redgrave of Don ald. T G Wauless from Calgary and H L Cummins from the Upper Country were in town recently. Section men faced snow slides during soft weather. Dr Taylor passed medical exams in Victoria and gains provincial registration. Hospital Ball Committee plans a major event with tickets from H Connacher or the Post Office at 2. The Queen's Hotel addition expands greatly and reflects credit on Mr J Greene for his town faith.
A lively local program drew a large audience with performances by Mrs Moodie Mr Plowright and Mr Owen plus readings by J F Armstrong The evening featured dancing until 1 am curling and skating schedules with ticket details A public meeting planned for a new burying ground and updates on church finances and a proposed telephone exchange are reported Also noted is the death of Archie McMurdo a notable East Kootenay prospector with funeral arrangements announced.
A grand concert and musical entertainment will be held at Alexander Hall on Wednesday evening for the benefit of the Hall. The posters promise one of the finest events in Golden with a concluding dance. Admission is 25 cents, with reserved seats at 50 cents. plan of reserved seats is available at the post office.
In Westminster meetings Indians express displeasure at Justice Minister for commuting the death sentence of Peter and Jack who killed a policeman a year ago. The mayor is urged to call a mass meeting as hostility toward white settlers grows and a mild punishment is feared to embolden more violence. The community notes Indians fear hanging more than incarceration.
