The Commonwealth Government may soon fix maximum wholesale prices for mutton beef and other meat with retail levels unlikely to be set. Four departments Commerce and Supply Prices Franch and Treasury are involved. The aim is to curb high prices for beef and mutton in view of large government meat purchases for the forces.
The will of Edward James Watt of Rose Bay, probated last week, leaves a net estate of about £610,000. Approximately £300,000 will go to Federal and State Governments in death duties. Watt, who died in May, was an AJC committeeman.
From Monday August 3, consumers must surrender B coupons from their Ration Books to obtain sugar of all grades. Each coupon buys two pounds and one coupon is issued every fortnight. Coupons may be accumulated for larger purchases. no registration is needed with retailers. Multiple special cases cover Household Purchases Group Users Services Personnel and Hospitals with proper procedures for presenting and detaching coupons and entries.
