Winchcombe Carson Ltd report pig values firm for baconers and backfatters at Sydney sale while stores fell 5 to 10 shillings. 2600 head penned including 800 stores. Prices ranged for backfatters up to 240 per hen and 160 for others, baconers 135 to 145 for 180 lb, and 120 to 135 for 160 lb.

Dairy Industry Act amended plans discussed in Assembly
In the Legislative Assembly Mr. R. J. Vincent asked if a bill would be introduced this session to amend the Dairy Industry Act. He urged setting maximum and minimum percentages of moisture and salt in butter at production. The Minister of Agriculture said a bill is being prepared and will consider these suggestions.

Death in Newcastle Ends Life of William Mayo
William Mayo a popular railway guard formerly on the school train in Dungog died at his Newcastle residence. He was 60 years old and survived by his widow two sons and one daughter. One son and a daughter had died previously. The surviving daughter is Mrs Reon Middlebrook of Gloucester. Funeral held Sunday with attendees including Mr Les Middlebrook of Bendoba.

Manning District Ambulance committee opposes government control
The Manning District Ambulance Service committee met with Dr F Stoken as chair and discussed a NSW Ambulance Transport Service Board circular noting government control moves. The group unanimously opposed over control, planned to object to Sir Farle Page and L Jordan, and praised superintendent C F Wiseman and staff for October 15 procession. September activity covered 143 medical transports, 22 accidents, 22 minor accidents, totaling 187 miles and 4,042 miles traveled across Taree Gloucester and Hastings stations with donations from Taree Race Club and Gloucester street stall totaling £50. The committee also commended staff and sent thanks to organizers.

Petrol Tax Cut Urged By State Party Leader
Lt Col Bruxner, head of the State Country Party, urged a reduction of the federal petrol tax from 1 1/2d to about 3d per gallon in the Legislative Assembly. He proposed 4d for classified roads and 3d for unclassified roads, warning councils could not maintain roads without Commonwealth funds. He noted timber-lorry traffic was rapidly damaging northern roads and called for tighter control on heavy vehicles.

Rabbit skin values at Sydney sales show varied demand
Rabbit skins at Wednesday's Sydney sales totaled 27 tons. Prices were irregular but averaged steady, with outgoing values ranging from 110d to 119d per lb and various grades listed from racks to damaged pelts. Best hare skins fetched 17/ to 23/6 per dozen and Indian skins 4/ to 15/ per dozen.
