Early Pioneer of the Macleay River Remembers Immense Frontier Times
On March 28 1928 the writer met H A McMaugh one of the last original Macleay River pioneers now living in East Kempsey at seventy seven plus. He recalls life at Coopernook Pee Dee Towal Creek Walera and Wabra Station with cattle and horses, floods of 1864, attacks by aboriginals and police trackers, family moves, and a long career on the Upper Macleay including firelight tales of Mogo and Dahlia Creek.
