The Stock Inspector A E Moore updates Gloucester Pastures Protection Board on February to April 1942 dairy patrol cuts, rainfall, pasture recovery, and crop progress. Cattle health, footrot treatment, and sterility issues are noted along with pig arthritis, swine fever risk, stock evacuation plans, and legal stock returns. A new permit inspector at Krambach is introduced with details to follow.
The Kimberley district in Western Australia backs a vast cattle move bound for slaughtering and canning works elsewhere. Authority J B Cramsie calls it possibly the world’s largest single cattle movement. He warns that without practical experience in handling large mobs and knowledge of stock routes, the magnitude and planning required are hard to grasp.
The Wyndham meat export works may be out of commission after a Japanese bombing. About 32,000 cattle, normally slaughtered there this year, are being moved to other centres with stock treatment facilities. The Department of Supply faces a heavy task delivering cattle under difficult conditions with pasture and water shortages and disease risks along stock routes. It will take months to complete the relocation and ensure cattle reach destinations safely.
