Public complaint on dairy pricing prompts calls for broadcasting safeguards

A Hawke River milk suppliers dispute over a radio announcer's remarks on high city milk prices raises suspicion of targeted propaganda against dairying. Producers argue transport and middleman costs shrink their share. The piece notes butter stockpiling in Australia and urges tighter control of wireless speech. Pending Australian Dairy Produce Board elections require milk and cream suppliers to enroll to vote, with guidelines for partnerships and share farming.

Trial by Alcohol: British Seaman's Alcohol Trial at Edinburgh

In Hamburg the High Court of Justiciary heard that Robert Hamilton, a British seaman, pleaded guilty to stabbing James Wallace, chief engineer, with a metal scraper on December 31 1934 or January 1 1935. The court sentenced him to five months in jail dating from September 5, with the tribunal finding him not responsible due to intoxication, following an alcohol trial that involved a test drink. He was later released, having served time in Germany and England, and the judge noted the act stemmed from loss of memory and lack of intent while under the influence.
