Letter from London on wartime privations in 1943
Edith Massey writes from Gloucester Street on January 3, 1943, describing rationing hardships in wartime England. She recalls coal and electricity shortages, cold rooms, and reduced comforts while praising Australian troops and workers in munitions and docks. She details Christmas cake making with rationed ingredients and the shared spirit of “Co operative Christmas Cheer.”
