Pig Industry Prospects Amid War Time Prices
The Minister for Agriculture and Forests, Hon W F Dunn MLA, said NSW may miss the 25 000 ton pig meat target, keeping prices high through the war and beyond. The Australian Meat Commission will handle pig production and pricing with the Price Commissioner. Despite past incentives to cull mature sows, supply to the bacon trade rose with fixed bacon prices and no pork price ceiling. NSW pig raising grows with better feed, transport, and Labour, under Meat Commission guidance safeguarding farmers.
