Proposed Park Courts Debate at Gloucester Tennis Meet

At a special Gloucester District Tennis Association meeting on Thursday, members considered raising funds for new courts at Gloucester Park. The cost estimate rose from 190 to 4190, with discussion on whether the association should contribute more or have private funding. The council favors building courts as the district headquarters, while reallocation of control remains debated. The plan to pursue Sunday sport in the park and referenda gained support, with refere nce to private courts if needed. Tennis activity plans included adding five teams and expanding summer competitions to two divisions with handicap. Nominations close August 31, and a proposal to run two divisions may hinge on sufficient entries.
